What started as a playful nickname among friends has grown into Good Papa’s Home Diner, a neighborhood restaurant built around family, comfort food, and a simple promise: to always serve something good.

A Name With a Story

Founded by chef and owner Jerry Mico, together with his wife and business partners, Good Papa’s Home Diner was born from their desire to build a business of their own. Originally operating under a different brand, the concept eventually evolved to accommodate a wider variety of food and offerings.

“It’s also a reminder for us, or actually mostly to me, to be good and to just serve good food,” Mico shares.

The name, however, carries a more personal story. The restaurant’s logo is inspired by Mico’s late father, whom he continues to look up to as an example of what it means to be a good parent.

Now a father of three himself, Mico admits that being a good father is something he continues to learn. Through the restaurant, he hopes to honor his father’s memory and carry forward the values he grew up with.

“In general, just be a good person. No matter where you are, who you are,” he says.

Comfort Food Worth Coming Back For

Good Papa’s menu brings together satisfying rice meals and familiar favorites with their own distinct character. Its signature Good Tapa remains a staple, while the Smashed Chicken has recently gained popularity and become one of its best-selling dishes.

Mico also recommends the Pork Thai Mama, which he considers one of the most complete offerings on the menu. Other choices include the Salpicao and Steak Bowl, giving diners plenty of options for a hearty meal.

For coffee lovers, the restaurant also serves drinks made with house-prepared ingredients.

Keeping Everything Good

For Mico, serving good food goes beyond having an interesting menu. It means paying attention to every component of a meal and making sure customers get something satisfying each time they visit.

At Good Papa’s, rice is a central part of the dining experience. Most main dishes come with garlic rice, making each plate a complete meal with protein, vegetables, and starch.

“I think that’s what Maggi Magic Sarap produces out of it,” Mico explains when discussing the flavor of his garlic rice. More importantly, he emphasizes the importance of enhancing rather than overpowering its simple, familiar taste.

Ultimately, Good Papa’s aims to make every part of the experience just as good as the food itself.

“We want everything to be good. Not just the food, but also the entire experience and the service of it all,” Mico says.
