Some destinations are built for adventure, while others invite visitors to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. At Paper Tree Resort, the experience is all about swimming in natural waters, relaxing under the shade of trees, and spending quality time with family and friends.
A Riverside Retreat Born from Family Outings
Located along a natural river, Paper Tree began as a private family retreat. According to Olive Elemento, who now manages the property, her father originally developed the place for their own family outings and picnics.

“At first, ginawa lang ito para sa family namin. Para kapag may outing kami, mag-picnic kami,” Elemento shared.
What started with just one cottage eventually caught the attention of visitors. As more people discovered the area, the family gradually added more cottages to accommodate guests. Today, Paper Tree has approximately 30 cottages of different sizes.
A River Shaped by Nature
One of Paper Tree’s defining features is its natural river, which Elemento describes as a freshwater spring flowing from underground. Its water source is connected to the Santo Tomas River, with the surrounding landscape shaped by the lahar deposits from Mount Pinatubo.

The river has been part of the area long before the resort opened. However, the lahar deposits helped strengthen its flow by redirecting water toward the lower sections.
While the river remains year-round, its water level changes with the seasons. Elemento explained that it typically becomes shallower between February and April as the water supply decreases.
For visitors, this natural setting is part of the appeal. The resort offers a straightforward experience centered on swimming and enjoying the outdoors, without elaborate attractions or artificial enhancements.
Simple Amenities, More Room to Relax
Paper Tree currently has around 30 cottages, ranging from smaller spaces for intimate gatherings to larger options for bigger groups. The resort does not yet offer accommodation rooms, as it has no electricity connection. Solar-powered lighting is used at night, and guests may also arrange overnight stays.
Another feature that sets the property apart is its entrance policy. Visitors can enter without paying an entrance fee. Instead, guests only pay for the cottage they choose, with rates depending on the cottage’s size and capacity.
This arrangement makes the resort an inviting option for families and groups looking for a casual day outdoors.
Bringing the Province Closer

Beyond its facilities, Elemento hopes visitors take home a particular feeling after spending time at Paper Tree: the experience of being in the countryside.
“Ang gusto ko lang ma-experience nila dito na para talaga silang nasa probinsya,” she said. She also highlighted the natural quality of the water, which is free from added chemicals, as well as the abundance of trees and plants surrounding the property.
For Elemento, keeping that natural atmosphere is central to what Paper Tree offers.
Whether it’s a family picnic, a refreshing swim, or simply an afternoon surrounded by greenery, Paper Tree invites guests to enjoy the kind of simple escape that makes time outdoors worthwhile.
