Music possesses a rare, almost supernatural ability to act as a time machine, anchoring our deepest memories to specific melodies, lyrics, and voices. A single chord progression can instantly transport a listener back to a specific era, evoking a potent sense of nostalgia that transcends time.
In the vibrant landscape of Philippine popular music, this emotional connection reached its peak during the golden age of the Metropop Star Search. More than just a televised talent competition, the era became a cultural phenomenon fueled by a deeply passionate fan culture.

The Genesis of a Reunion
The concept for this grand musical reunion first took shape in 2025, sparked by a vision from Miles Poblete. Recognizing the profound impact of the Metropop Star Search alumni, Poblete conceptualized a concert that would bring these iconic winners back together under one roof.
To breathe life into this ambitious idea, she partnered with recording artist Cye Soriano, who took the helm in organizing the event, spearheading the planning phases and personally reaching out to the artists.
Through Soriano’s professional network, including connections forged during her time on The Voice Teens. The duo successfully assembled an extraordinary lineup of vocal powerhouses. The roster featured Faith Cuneta, Xaxa Manalo, Champagne Morales, and Roxanne Barcelo, with Camille Velasco and Anna Katrina Lara later joining the historic bill.
To elevate the production to a premier standard, Soriano collaborated with the prominent Blancaflor family. Director Vivian Blancaflor was brought in to shape the overarching stage production, while Elmer Blancaflor assumed the roles of musical director, arranger, and producer, backed by his live band.
Ultimately, the creative team selected the intimate setting of the Teatrino at Promenade, Greenhills, for this one-night-only affair, ensuring a rare, deeply personal experience for both the lifetime fans and the artists themselves.

Pioneers of the Metropop Era
Among the central figures of this reunion is Faith Cuneta, a celebrated Filipino singer renowned for her powerful, emotive ballad vocals. Cuneta first gained national recognition during the 1997 Metropop Star Search, where she finished as the first runner-up in a fierce top-three lineup that included future stars like Kyla.
Following the completion of her college education, she established a professional singing career in hotel lounges and live venues across Metro Manila, where she meticulously developed her signature style. Cuneta eventually achieved mainstream prominence as the Philippines’ “Asianovela Diva,” becoming the definitive voice behind the theme songs of popular televised Korean dramas.
Over a multi-decade career, she has released celebrated albums, earned the prestigious Aliw Award for Best Female Performer, and remains a respected pillar of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
Sharing the 1997 Metropop stage was Xaxa Manalo, who captured third place with a memorable performance of “Bakit Pa.” While Manalo currently navigates the skies as a licensed pilot for Philippine Airlines, her enduring passion for music has never waned. This concert marks her highly anticipated return to the stage, allowing her to share the spotlight once more with her fellow Metropop contemporaries.
The ultimate crown of that historic 1997 competition went to Champagne Morales. She became the Grand Champion after captivating audiences with a stirring rendition of “Journey to the Past.” Celebrated for her highly expressive vocals and magnetic stage presence, Morales emerged as one of the era’s definitive talents, securing a lasting legacy within the heritage of Metropop culture.
Champions of Vitality and Versatility
The momentum of the competition continued into 1998, a year dominated by the charisma and vocal prowess of Roxanne Barcelo. Winning the 1998 Metropop Star Search, Barcelo immediately set herself apart as a serious and promising contender in the entertainment industry.
As a recording artist, she achieved widespread acclaim with hit singles such as “Kung Alam Mo Lang” and “Morena,” both of which highlighted her soulful tone and vocal versatility. Beyond her musical achievements, Barcelo has built a prolific acting career, appearing in numerous television programs and feature films.
Today, she maintains an enduring appeal by seamlessly balancing her dual passions for song and screen.
The following year belonged to the reunion’s original visionary, Miles Poblete. Poblete secured her place in OPM history as the Grand Champion of the 1999 Metropop Star Search, delivering a powerhouse performance of the classic “Anak ng Pasig.” Her immense vocal talent later led her to become the lead vocalist for the legendary Filipino band Hotdog.
Much like her peers Cuneta and Barcelo, Poblete has successfully bridged the worlds of music and drama, consistently releasing new music while solidifying her reputation as a dedicated actress.
Millennium Powerhouses
As the competition entered the new millennium, the standard of talent remained exceptionally high. In the Metropop Star Search 2000, Camille Velasco earned the second-place title, turning heads with a rich, soulful interpretation of Toni Braxton’s “How Could an Angel Break My Heart.” Under the guidance of the legendary manager Cornelia “Tita Angge” Lee, Velasco went on to release her own studio album, earning critical praise as a powerhouse vocalist while concurrently building a reputable career in acting.
The top honor of the 2000 competition went to Anna Katrina Lara, who claimed the Grand Champion title with a soaring performance of Regine Velasquez’s “On the Wings of Love.”
Throughout the early 2000s, Lara became a staple of Philippine television and later released her own commercial single. While she has spent recent years performing in exclusive music lounges, this reunion represents her return to the grand stage alongside the peers who defined her musical generation.
The Architect of the New Generation
Serving as both a performer and the logistical anchor of the project is Cye Soriano, a rising force in contemporary OPM. Praised by the local press for her clear, soothing vocals and deeply emotive delivery, Soriano has been affectionately dubbed “the new Karen Carpenter of Manila.” Her angelic voice and heartfelt interpretations span across pop, indie, and easy-listening genres.
Soriano’s burgeoning career has already garnered significant industry accolades, including the title of New Live Singer of the Year, alongside recognition at the 5th Philippine Faces of Success. Drawing artistic inspiration from icons such as Karen Carpenter and Lea Salonga, she has already shared the stage with an illustrious roster of Filipino talent, including Faith Cuneta, Angeline Quinto, Miles Poblete, Ice Seguerra, JM De Guzman, Kris Lawrence, Geneva Cruz, Ben&Ben, and Noel Cabangon.
Through her dual role as a featured artist and the co-creator of this concert, Soriano continues to cement her own distinctive legacy within the evolving landscape of Philippine music.
