At Tatung’s, Every Table Feels Like a Seat at Home

A heartfelt dining destination where Filipino flavors feel like home

Perhaps that is why Tatung's resonates so naturally. It does not chase trends or reinvent Filipino cuisine for the sake of novelty. Instead, it reminds diners why these dishes became classics in the first place.

There is something quietly radical about a restaurant that does not ask to impress you.

Instead, it asks you to stay.

At Tatung’s, now open on the Upper Ground Floor B of Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City, Cubao, the experience begins long before the first plate reaches the table. The space, which occupies the former Palenque Food Hall, trades spectacle for warmth.

Soft lighting spills across wood finishes and earthy textures, while familiar Filipino accents lend the dining room the comforting rhythm of a family gathering. It feels polished without being precious. Contemporary without abandoning tradition. In an era when restaurants often seem designed more for phone cameras than conversations. Tatung’s chooses a different kind of luxury: making guests feel at ease.

From Screen to Table: Chef Tatung’s Most Personal Chapter

That choice reflects the philosophy of Chef Tatung himself.

For years, the award-winning cookbook author, television personality, and founder of the SIMPOL culinary platform has invited millions of Filipinos into his kitchen through recipes built on accessibility rather than intimidation. Tatung’s represents the next chapter of that relationship. It is his most personal restaurant to date. One that carries his own name not as a brand exercise but as a declaration of accountability.

Putting my name on this restaurant is not an act of ego. It is an act of accountability—and of homecoming,” Chef Tatung says.

At Tatung’s, I simply wanted to be myself. And it turns out, that is enough.”

The restaurant’s tagline, Home, remembered, is more than a clever copy. It is the thread connecting every corner of the dining experience. Guests are welcomed into an atmosphere that encourages lingering over meals. Sharing stories across the table, and embracing the comforting pace of Filipino hospitality. The vibe is refreshingly unhurried. Whether you’re gathering with family after Sunday Mass, catching up with friends who have become your chosen family, or planning that long-overdue dinner that finally escapes the group chat, Tatung’s feels like it has been waiting for you.

That sense of belonging traces back to Chef Tatung’s beginnings. Before the bestselling cookbooks and social media following, he quietly operated a private dining space in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City. Inside a converted home simply called Tatung. It was intimate, deeply personal, and centered on honest Filipino cooking. The new restaurant carries that spirit forward on a larger scale without losing its soul.

Heirloom Flavors: A Menu Rooted in Memory

The menu reads like a collection of family stories told through food.

Freshly prepared Kinilaw opens the meal with bright acidity from sukang tuba, fragrant biasong limes from Mindanao. And the subtle complexity of tabon-tabon from the Visayas. Every bite is clean, vibrant, and unmistakably Filipino.

Then come dishes rooted in memory. The Whole Pompano Braised in Coconut Milk follows the recipe of Chef Tatung’s Lola Juanita, delivering delicate fish enveloped in a rich, gently simmered coconut sauce.

Nearby on the menu, Humba pays tribute to Lola Natividad. Presenting the familiar Southern Filipino braise with tenderness that speaks of patience rather than haste.

The Pancit Guisado, complete with house-made kikiam sausage, offers comforting familiarity elevated through careful craftsmanship.

Meanwhile, the Santol Wood-Smoked Roast Beef Caldereta layers smoky depth beneath a velvety sauce enriched with queso de bola, creating a dish that feels both celebratory and surprisingly everyday.

Playful Traditions: Desserts with Range

Dessert refuses to play it safe—in the best possible way.

The New York-Cubao Bibingka Cheesecake delivers exactly what its playful name promises, marrying the creamy richness of classic cheesecake with the toasted aroma and nostalgic character of bibingka.

The Sizzling Cassava Cake arrives bubbling and caramelized around the edges, inviting everyone at the table to steal “just one more bite.”

Then comes Bibingkang Talong, perhaps the menu’s most delightfully unexpected creation, reimagining tortang talong with enough creativity to spark conversation without sacrificing the familiar flavors that make it comforting. It’s giving heritage—with range.

Beyond the Dining Room: The Tindeli and the Vision

Beyond the dining room, Tatung’s extends the experience through its dedicated Tindeli corner, where guests can browse curated deli products and pasalubong items to bring a piece of the restaurant home. It is a thoughtful addition that reinforces the restaurant’s central idea: good food should continue the conversation long after the meal ends.

Remarkably, the restaurant was entirely self-funded by Chef Tatung, reflecting not only entrepreneurial confidence but also deep personal conviction in the vision behind the project.

The gap I wanted to fill was not a category on a menu,” he says. “It was the space between a screen and a shared meal.”

Perhaps that is why Tatung’s resonates so naturally. It does not chase trends or reinvent Filipino cuisine for the sake of novelty. Instead, it reminds diners why these dishes became classics in the first place. In a cultural moment defined by fleeting viral sensations and endless scrolling, Tatung’s offers something increasingly rare: a reason to put the phone down, stay awhile, and savor the company around the table.

Sometimes the most memorable dining experience is not the loudest one.

Sometimes, it simply feels like coming home.
