I want them to feel very welcome,” Choa says. “Feel at home. I don’t want to make an ambience that feels intimidating.”

As a child, me and my mom used to bake a lot,” Choa recalls. “That was really our pastime.”
When lockdowns halted daily routines, Choa returned to baking. Orders quickly multiplied, and loyal customers began asking for something more permanent—a place where they could enjoy the pastries fresh, skip the pre-orders, and simply spend time together.
So that’s how it started,” he says.
Kasambagan was an easy choice.
Growing up in the neighborhood, Choa knew its quiet streets and residential character by heart. Instead of planting his business inside a busy commercial district, he leaned into the area’s intimate, hole-in-the-wall personality, creating a café that feels like a neighborhood secret waiting to be shared.
Evolving the Menu by Popular Demand
Initially, Anthony’s Cafe focused on light breakfast fare, gradually earning a loyal following for its morning offerings. But as its community grew, so did customer requests.
Before we renovated, a lot of our regular customers requested maybe we should add heavier meals good for lunch and dinner,” Choa says.
The expanded menu reflects that evolution without losing its identity.
Among the café’s signature dishes is Anthony’s Inasal na Manok, an inventive reinterpretation of the Filipino classic. Rather than grilling the chicken traditionally, Choa transforms it into a delicate roulade, preserving the unmistakable smoky, savory flavors of inasal while presenting it with a more refined finish. The accompanying sauce ties everything together, creating a dish that feels both familiar and refreshingly unexpected.
