For five-year-olds stepping into a classroom for the very first time, the experience can be daunting. After all, it is a world of unfamiliar faces, strict schedules, and daunting blackboards.
But when the new batch of kindergarteners walks through the doors of Sinalhan Elementary School this school year, they won’t be greeted by sterile concrete walls. Instead, they will step directly into an enchanted ecosystem.
Indeed, by transforming a standard public school classroom into a vibrant sanctuary of Philippine biodiversity, this project serves as proof that corporate social responsibility doesn’t have to be clinical. Ultimately, sometimes the best way to prepare young minds for the future is to sprinkle a little magic into their everyday reality.
A Magical Socio-civic Move
Enchanted Kingdom (EK), the premier world-class theme park in the Philippines, recently reaffirmed its enduring partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd). Marking its twelfth consecutive year of active participation in the Brigada Eskwela initiative. The theme park officially turned over its fifteenth adopted kindergarten classroom to Sinalhan Elementary School in Santa Rosa, Laguna, on June 5.
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide annual school maintenance program that rallies community stakeholders to volunteer their time, effort, and resources to prepare public schools for the upcoming academic year. In fact, this year’s theme, “Bayanihan Para sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa Para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman,”. This perfectly mirrors EK’s own Education Program, which focuses on delivering secure, engaging, and magical learning spaces for students.
Brushes, Biodiversity, and Backyard Gardens
To breathe new life into the adopted kindergarten space, Enchanted Kingdom deployed its internal maintenance team to repair and upgrade the room’s physical fixtures. Following these structural improvements, EK artists transformed the classroom walls into a vivid mural.
Notably, the artwork showcases characters from the park’s Storyverse alongside depictions of Philippine biodiversity. Specifically spotlighting several endemic species featured in EK’s award-winning attraction, AGILA The EKsperience: SARIBUHAY. Furthermore, the mural integrates the theme park’s five core values and illustrates practical ways for young learners to practice environmental stewardship.
Moving beyond the classroom walls, the Santa Rosa–based theme park also revitalized the school’s garden, Taniman Para sa Paaralan. To do this, the team cultivated a diverse selection of vegetables and ornamental plants to encourage agricultural awareness among the students.
A Long-Term Promise to the Community
During the official turnover ceremony, EK Chairman and President Cesar Mario O. Mamon emphasized the organization’s drive to expand its footprint within Brigada Eskwela. Pledging to provide more educational and enchanting experiences through continuous community engagement and sustained partnerships.
As the Enchanted Kingdom celebrates its 30th year, we continue to uphold our commitment to nurturing young minds as we extend our active participation in Brigada Eskwela in the years to come,” Mamon said.
We also look forward to further strengthening our partnership with DepEd and the City of Santa Rosa across their programs.” he added.
The celebratory event was attended by Santa Rosa City Mayor Arlene Arcillas and Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas. They were joined by Hereberto Jose Miranda, CESO VI, the Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) for Santa Rosa. Ladislao Alicbusan, the Barangay Sinalhan Chairman; Benjamin Ongteco Jr., Principal II of Sinalhan Elementary School. And as well as local teachers, parents, and students.
Bringing the Classroom to the Park
EK continues to bridge entertainment and education outside of local schools through experiential learning modules embedded in its regular in-park experiences. Guests can access these educational programs alongside the park’s signature rides and attractions.
Currently, the park welcomes visitors from Friday through Sunday, between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Beginning June 29, Enchanted Kingdom will shift to its extended magical operating hours. Opening from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every Friday through Sunday.
