Losing a true legend is never easy, but looking back at the incredible path Ate Gay carved out reminds us of the endless joy they brought to the Philippine comedy scene. From unforgettable characters to viral musical moments, their career was a masterclass in spreading laughter.
The Himala Multiverse
For over three decades, Ate Gay, legally known as Gil Aducal Morales—built a legendary stand-up and comedy-bar career starting around 1995 at popular venues like Music Box, Klownz, and Zirkoh.

By combining Nora Aunor’s distinct voice, mannerisms, and dramatic delivery with rapid-fire song mashups, they captured the hearts of many. Furthermore, the iconic phrase “himala” became deeply intertwined with their journey, especially after their famous impersonation of Elsa from the classic film Himala and later when they openly shared hopeful updates during their medical treatments.
Meanwhile, this creative spirit also translated into a 2021 single titled May Himala Pala and even a short-lived food venture called Siomai Himala.
Maliiiii: Of All The Song Mash-Ups
Transitioning to their musical genius, Ate Gay’s legendary song mash-ups served as the ultimate comedy-bar attendance check.

Typically, they would start with the chorus of one song and seamlessly connect it to an entirely different track, creating a hilarious and catchy viral sensation. Consequently, standout performances—such as mashing BINI’s Salamin with Piliin mo ang Pilipinas, or blending Love Moves and Just Once on a talk show hosted by Tito Boy—showcased a relentless dedication to comedy that bridged the gap from traditional stand-up and television all the way to the digital age of TikTok.
Habang Naririto Ka: A Celebration of Life for Ate Gay
A unique milestone took place on October 15 at Forest Lake Biñan in Laguna during the third edition of UNDASKO, which combined Undas and Pasko to bring communities together.

One of its major highlights was “Habang Naririto Ka: A Celebration of Life for Ate Gay,” a living funeral held weeks before the icon’s passing on November 1. Although the comedic stunt drew plenty of humorous reactions at first, it ultimately offered family, friends, and loved ones a deeply poignant opportunity to express their appreciation and share cherished memories while the comedian was still alive to hear them.

Ate Gay may have reached the finale of a truly remarkable journey, the laughter, music, and love they shared will forever echo in our hearts. Truly, an icon yesterday and a legend for all time.
