Filipino R&B icon Jay R is back with a fresh twist on one of his most beloved tracks, teaming up with acclaimed international singer-songwriter Lil’ Eddie for a brand-new Taglish rendition of his classic hit.
The Collaboration Inspo
Ever since they first crossed paths while touring the Philippines for their duet “Statue (Taglish Version),” the musical chemistry was immediate. Furthermore, Jay R revealed his long-term motivation for the project, stating,
I’ve wanted to create a Taglish version of ‘Bakit Pa Ba’ for years, and fans have been asking for it too, Lil’ Eddie’s talent and musicality made him the perfect collaborator to bring this vision to life.”
Consequently, the creative partnership came together seamlessly, blending two distinct musical backgrounds into something truly special.
Seven Hours of Writing
When it came to the actual recording process, both artists spent nearly seven hours writing and refining the track. In addition to this dedication, they meticulously polished the finer details of the English lyrics until each line felt effortlessly authentic, ensuring the new version stayed faithful to the original composition’s sentiment. Meanwhile, rather than relying on heavy production, they kept the arrangement intimate and let their raw vocal abilities take center stage.
A Powerhouse Musical Pairing
Ultimately, the track benefits greatly from both artists’ impressive industry credentials. On one hand, Jay R has spent the last three decades crafting some of the biggest OPM hits, cementing his legacy early on. On the other hand, Lil’ Eddie brings a wealth of global experience, having previously contributed to releases by prominent artists including Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Paula Abdul, Jessie J, JoJo, and Fifth Harmony.
Together, their combined talents result in an incredible cross-cultural exchange.
Jay R’s “Bakit Pa Ba” (Empty) Taglish Version, featuring Lil’ Eddie, is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.
