March is Fire Prevention Month in the Philippines, officially recognized under Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A. This observance aims to raise awareness about fire safety, particularly during the summer months when fire incidents typically rise.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), fire incidents increased by 10.6 percent from 16,387 cases in 2023 to 18,217 in 2024. To address this growing concern, experts recommend taking key measures to prevent fires and protect lives and property.

Palawan Group of Companies outlines five important fire safety tips this Fire Prevention Month.

First, inspect electrical systems regularly. Faulty wiring and overloaded outlets are major causes of fires, so it’s important to maintain electrical systems and avoid overloading outlets.

Second, practice safe cooking habits, as kitchen fires are common. Never leave cooking unattended, and keep flammable materials away from stoves.

Third, store flammable materials such as gasoline, paint, and chemicals in well-ventilated areas away from heat sources.

Fourth, invest in a fire extinguisher to quickly respond to small fires before they escalate.

Lastly, consider getting fire insurance. Palawan ProtekTODO Fire 99 offers affordable coverage with up to P30,000 in fire cash assistance and up to Php 10,000 in accidental death benefits, providing peace of mind in case of a fire.

Meijhen Maulanin, brand manager of Palawan ProtekTODO, stressed the importance of fire insurance, noting that while insurance is often underrated, fire cash assistance can offer invaluable peace of mind during unexpected events.

For just P99, Palawan ProtekTODO Fire 99 is available at Palawan Pawnshop, Palawan Express Pera Padala branches, the PalawanPay App, or through Lazada and Shopee.
