Happy Endings Creamery is a homegrown artisanal ice cream shop in Iloilo City that has quickly become a local favorite for its “honest” approach to dairy and its distinct, inventive flavor profiles.
Sweet little steps toward local recognition
The shop began as a small business venture that initially operated without a physical storefront, selling micro-batches through social media and local orders. After building a steady following for its high-quality, real-dairy ice cream, it opened its first physical shop on September 15, 2023, in Tabucan, Mandurriao along Donato Pison Avenue.
The name “Happy Endings” reflects its goal of being a place where people can unwind and recover from a long day, positioning a scoop of ice cream as a comforting final note to a meal or experience.

Creativity meets local palate heritage
What sets Happy Endings apart is its commitment to premium ingredients and its reinterpretation of local Ilonggo heritage through artisanal ice cream flavors. The creamery is well known for transforming traditional delicacies and regional ingredients into frozen creations.
One of its most iconic flavors is baye-baye, inspired by a Western Visayas delicacy made from grated young coconut mixed with ground young rice (pinipig) or corn and sugar. The original delicacy is soft, chewy, and slightly sticky, often shaped into rolls and wrapped for serving.
Another standout is the Batuan Cheesecake, which uses batuan fruit—a native souring ingredient commonly found in Ilonggo dishes such as kansi and sinigang. The fruit’s distinct tang adds a bright, earthy acidity to the creamy base, creating a balanced dessert profile.
Also featured is the KBL flavor, inspired by the Ilonggo dish kadyos, baboy (pork), and langka. Traditionally a savory stew soured with batwan, it combines pigeon peas, pork, and unripe jackfruit into a deeply comforting dish. In ice cream form, it reflects the shop’s experimental approach to translating local cuisine into dessert.
“The taste is very different from gelato and American ice cream; you’ll feel the texture of the rice, the crunch, and the milk. It tastes very good,” said Chef Sao.

Not just a tour stop, but an experience for the taste buds
The establishment often describes itself as a creamery and food lab, as its offerings extend beyond ice cream to include Taiwanese comfort food inspired by heirloom family recipes. Regular patrons often visit for dishes such as beef noodle soup and braised pork before finishing their meal with a scoop of ice cream.
Despite its limited physical space, the shop maintains an inviting, “hidden gem” atmosphere. It has built a loyal following among locals and food enthusiasts, especially younger audiences, by prioritizing freshness, craftsmanship, and small-batch production over mass manufacturing.
