The Cultural Center of the Philippines and Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas present Papet Pasyon 2025 at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez on April 6, 2025, with performances at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Written by National Artist for Theater Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, Papet Pasyon 2025 follows key moments of Holy Week, including Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, his passion, death, and resurrection. A young boy who receives a miracle from Jesus serves as the storyteller, blending biblical passages with Filipino traditions.

This puppet play is a celebration of Filipino heritage and devotion, featuring wooden puppets crafted by master woodcarvers from Paete, Laguna. First staged at the CCP in 1985, Papet Pasyon has been performed in churches, schools, and other venues, eventually finding a home at the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Teatro Papet Museo in 2006. During the pandemic, Teatrong Mulat produced stage-to-film versions, and in 2023, it was staged at the Metropolitan Theater of Manila.

Marking its 40th anniversary, Papet Pasyon 2025 returns to the CCP, continuing the tradition with new and seasoned Mulateers (Teatrong Mulat puppeteers).

Directed by Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete, the play has evolved over the years with updates to the script, puppetry, and integration of shadow play and voice-over elements while staying true to its original vision.

Papet Pasyon 2025 is free and open to the public.
