Some of the best recipes come from the most ordinary places, and Chef Tatung’s Repolyo con Hipon is one of them. A ginisang gulay that traces back to childhood, to vegetables that were just there, eaten without ceremony and remembered anyway.

Cabbage and shrimp don’t sound like much on paper, but this is the kind of dish that earns its place at the table every time.

The vegetables are simple, the method is straightforward, and MAGGI Magic Sarap does what it’s always done in Filipino home kitchens: bringing that familiar, rounded depth that makes honest food taste even more like itself.

INGREDIENTS

Set A. Aromatics 

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 medium onion, minced
  • 1 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 tomato

Set B. Vegetables 

  • 2 pc cabbage core, sliced 
  • 1 small carrot, sliced
  • 30g shrimp head
  • 50-80g shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 whole cabbage, sliced
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • ½ shrimp juice 
  • 2 tsp MAGGI Magic Sarap
  • 1 tsp ground pepper 

Set C. Garnish 

  • Sesame oil (optional)
  • Chili garlic (optional)

PROCEDURE

Cabbage and shrimp don’t sound like much on paper, but this is the kind of dish that earns its place at the table every time.

A. Saute

Heat the pan, add oil and saute onion, garlic and tomato for 1-2 minutes or until the tomatoes become soft. 

B. Cook the Shrimp and Veggies 

Add the cabbage core and carrot mix and let it cook for 2-3 minutes. Mash and pound the shrimp head and set aside. Add shrimp, cabbage, shrimp juice, maggi magic sarap and pepper. Toss and mix well for 3-4 minutes.

C. Finish

Drizzle with sesame oil, plate and serve with rice and chili garlic.
