It really is 2016 that gave many births to historical moments and figures.

It was when the musical landscape first had Offshore Music. An Independent Record Label founded by Filipino Rock icon Ely Buendia. The frontman of Eraserheads, alongside a collective of passionate musicians and business minds.

Known for producing indie and underground musicians, Offshore is focusing on qualitative talent over digital-stream metrics. One of many notable Offshore artists are: Ena Mori, ALYSON, Apartel, Pinkmen, Carousel Casualties and neytan.

At a time completely dominated by digitized art, the label also reinforces dedication to physical media as its signature contribution to the OPM landscape.

To continuously support and advocate for its artists and the craft, Offshore Music celebrates its tenth anniversary with the launch of a five-part documentary series. Chronicling its journey as one of the most prominent Filipino record labels in the indie and underground music spaces.

From risky vinyl pressings, to championing underground talent.

Artistry over anything else

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Offshore Music PH is dropping a five-part docuseries on YouTube, running from May to September.

It’s packed with archival footage, candid interviews, and behind-the-scenes. Stories that look back at the incredible community, management team, and roster of artists the label has built over the last decade.

At its core, the label is all about lifting up musicians who bring something genuinely fresh and interesting to the local scene.

Instead of using a cookie-cutter approach, they listen closely to where an artist fits in the musical landscape. And build a strategy from there.

Pat Sarabia, the label’s A&R Director, emphasizes that they really encourage artists to hone their craft through honest feedback. Help them make connections both inside and outside their network, and—most importantly—gladly back their wildest creative ideas.

The lightbulb moment

The five-part docuseries kicks off with Episode 1, “One Vision, One Product,” which takes a look back at how the label first started through a roundtable chat with the board members.

This first episode dives into their original vision and their risky, bold move to champion vinyl records when everyone else was moving to digital streaming—a decision that really came to define the label’s deep commitment to real artistry and staying authentic.

We always put the artists’ creativity and music first before anything else. I think we’ve shown the industry that it’s possible to have fair contracts and collaboration that benefit both the label and the artist.”

Audry Dionisio, the General Manager over at Offshore Music, took a look back at the core philosophy that has guided the label throughout the years.

What makes it

As for the rest of the docuseries, there is plenty more to look forward to. Episode 2, “Championing Artist Growth,” dives into their groundbreaking roster and how they go about building trust with their musicians.

Then, Episode 3, “Board Member Reflections,” takes you behind the scenes for an honest look at the big strategic decisions, financial gambles, and personal sacrifices it takes to keep an indie label afloat. Those two are set to drop in June and July 2026.

To wrap things up in August and September, the final stretch of the documentary shifts focus to the musicians themselves and what’s next for the company with Episode 4: “Artist Stories” and Episode 5: “The Epilogue.”

Throughout the entire series, Offshore isn’t shying away from tackling the usual myths and misconceptions about record labels. Instead, they’re aiming to show how crucial things like empathy, fairness, and true collaboration really are when it comes to managing artists.

The reality is that it’s not a glamorous job, It involves a solid system, lots of communication, and interpersonal connections for it to work.”

Sarabia admits.

But it’s not all about the struggles and setbacks—the documentary also shines a spotlight on the major wins in the label’s history. It covers everything from their groundbreaking vinyl releases to teaming up with major global companies.

All while keeping their integrity intact.

Some of the big milestones you’ll see include the very first vinyl pressing of the classic Ultraelectromagneticpop! album and how they built an internationally recognized roster full of critically acclaimed music.

The sweet success

Ten years later and Offshore Music, championing Filipino creativity,  remains driven by the same objective that sparked its beginnings.

We’re just avid fans of music and will continue to contribute to the betterment of OPM,”

Buendia affirms.

As founder Ely Buendia notes, the heart of Offshore Music is simply being an avid fan and helping elevate the local scene.

Looking ahead, Dionisio is genuinely excited and optimistic about where Offshore Music is heading. Something the documentary trailer definitely hints at. She notes that fans can look forward to even more interesting releases, authentic content, and a growing community of like-minded creatives.

The first episode of the Offshore Music PH 10th Anniversary Docuseries is set to drop sometime this month, so definitely stay tuned for more updates!
