Raw, DIY, everyday-heustle energy that bleeds directly through music. The only Sexy Jay way.
The mastermind behind the moniker is Jay Villarosa, a Taguig-based art-punk auteur who defies every single standard convention of what a modern musician is supposed to be.
Before pursuing music full-time, Jay developed a unique multi-hyphenate lifestyle that shapes his raw, DIY songwriting.
Outside the studio, he works as a barber, skates, and brews artisan lambanog.

Turning Absolute Misery Into Post-Punk Magic
For years, “Singaw” existed purely as a live phenomenon. It generated a massive reputation in the local circuit for its brilliant juxtaposition. A dark, hypnotic instrumentation heavily reminiscent of the brooding, icy energy of Joy Division’s classic 1979 track “Disorder,” paired with a completely absurd, hyper-relatable premise.
The song is, quite literally, about the excruciating, nagging pain of having a mouth ulcer. Jay recalls the exact moment the track sparked to life back in July of last year:
July last year nabuo yung idea ng ‘Singaw’, pero hindi pa final yung process non. May singaw ako nung time na yon kaya yan pumasok na lyrics habang pinapakinggan ko yung beat na nagawa ko.”
It’s that exact blend of everyday discomfort and high-concept post-punk styling that makes Sexy Jay so fascinating. He takes the mundane, slightly annoying realities of life and wraps them in a sonic landscape that makes you want to move.
Alongside the audio launch, fans can also dive into the visual world of the track. A brand-new lyric video, beautifully crafted by animator Jyzel Monzon, has just premiered over on Offshore Music PH’s official YouTube channel.
It perfectly captures the gritty, experimental aesthetic that Jay has made his signature.
The Mastermind Behind the “Toilet Records” Aesthetic
To truly appreciate “Singaw,” you have to understand where Sexy Jay comes from. Jay didn’t find his sound through elite music schools or expensive studio sessions.
Instead, his introduction to the post-punk genre came from an unconventional source: the background music of skate trick compilations on YouTube.
In the early days, Jay took the concept of “indie” to a whole new level. Lacking access to professional gear, he began recording his music inside his bathroom, using nothing but the built-in microphone of a pair of cheap, wired earphones.

Captivated by the driving rhythms and atmospheric synths of those underground soundtracks, he set out to build his own sonic persona. The result is a thrilling, experimental mix of heavy synthesizers, electronic elements, and lyrics that walk the fine line between playful, nonsensical, and deeply observational.
He affectionately dubbed this era “Toilet Records.” Far from being a limitation, this setup became a deliberate artistic choice:
Natural Reverb: He utilized the tight, tiled acoustics of the bathroom to create a natural, ghostly echo.
Lo-Fi Vocals: The slight distortion and technological imperfections of the cheap microphone gave his vocals a gritty, distant texture that perfectly matches the post-punk ethos.
The Countdown to the June Album
Many fans wondered why “Singaw” was chosen as the follow-up single to his highly anticipated debut track, “Daga.” When asked about the sequencing, Jay offered a refreshingly straightforward answer: it’s simply his second favorite track on his upcoming full-length album.
That album is currently slated to drop sometime in June 2026, meaning this single is the perfect appetizer for a much larger sonic meal. While a lot of post-punk can feel unapproachable, dark, or overly serious, Sexy Jay’s mission is the exact opposite.
He recognizes that while his themes can be strange, the music itself carries a vibrant, positive charge. His ultimate goal is to get his music into as many ears as possible, creating a space where everyone can just let go and “Zombie dance” their way through the rhythm.
Don’t worry about pre-saving anymore—the track is fully live right now. Head over to Spotify, Apple Music, or whatever platform you use to stream your music, search for “Singaw,” and turn the volume all the way up.
