There was a time when the Philippines had no real space for chefs to thrive. Fine dining was seen as excessive. Culinary competitions were rare. Mentorship was almost unheard of.
That began to change when the LTB Philippines Chefs Association was born. More than a professional network, it became a movement—built by chefs, for chefs—united by the mission to raise the bar for Filipino culinary excellence.
“It started with a handful of chefs who believed we could raise the bar,” said Chef James Antolin, co-founder of LTB. “It was hard to get everyone together — chefs, GMs, students, even home cooks. But we knew that with open minds and strong will, we could create something lasting.”

From Passion Project to National Network
Today, LTB’s reach extends far beyond its roots. It supports chefs working in hotel kitchens, teaching in classrooms, competing in food expos, and cooking in home kitchens.
Its programs include national competitions, regional outreach, mentorships, and life-changing scholarships. But at the heart of it all is one clear mission: elevate Filipino chefs and ensure no one walks alone.
This community is a place where skills are built, careers are launched, and chefs find both guidance and belonging.

Changing Lives Through Scholarships
Among LTB’s most impactful efforts is its scholarship initiative.
For Christian Anthony Castillo, the program was life-changing. Once an LTB-CSAP scholar, he now serves as the Dean of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Bulacan State University.
“Coming from a state university, LTB-CSAP recalibrated my understanding of excellence,” Castillo said. “It gave me not just technical skills, but the confidence to pass those skills on.”
His hands-on training included immersion at ISCAHM and Euro-Swiss Foods among other institutions — connecting classroom theory to real-world execution. “It was a privilege to be mentored by the country’s best,” he said. “The lessons I learned will continue to guide me.”

Leadership Grounded in Service
At the helm of LTB is Jerome Valencia, current president of the association. Under his leadership, the group has continued to grow in purpose and reach.

“Our mission is simple but powerful: raise the standards of Filipino chefs and make sure no one is left behind,” Valencia said.
He leads by example, focusing on CSR efforts, regional expansion, and programs that help young professionals find their voice. “It’s never about hierarchy,” he added. “We’re here to help chefs grow into who they’re meant to be.”
Reaching Chefs Where They Are
What sets LTB apart is its inclusive, ground-up approach. It doesn’t focus solely on fine dining. Instead, it meets chefs where they are—students, home cooks, career shifters, and seasoned professionals.
The Young Chefs Club nurtures early talent. Regional scholarships widen access. Mentorships create bonds that extend beyond the kitchen.
“There’s a culture of generosity that runs deep here,” said Chef James. “We grow by lifting others. We lead by example. We remind each other to be good, do good, and work hard.”

Partnerships That Push the Industry Forward
Collaboration fuels LTB’s long-term impact. The association partners with culinary schools, industry leaders, and major events like WOFEX and the Philippine Culinary Cup.
“WOFEX gave us a platform,” said Valencia. “But it’s the people we bring in that give it meaning. From small-town cooks to global competitors—we want them all to feel they belong.”
These platforms aren’t just for show. They’re where chefs test ideas, sharpen skills, and help one another move the industry forward.“It’s not easy to get chefs, suppliers, and students in the same room,” Chef James added. “But when we do, we see what’s possible.”

What It All Means
The LTB Philippines Chefs Association proves that mentorship can build more than culinary skill—it can transform lives. It reminds us that excellence doesn’t begin in five-star kitchens. It begins with access, support, and belief.

What started as a handful of chefs has become a national force—one that continues to mentor, uplift, and open doors across the country.
Because when you raise one chef, you uplift a whole community.
