Managed by Holly Pantaleon, who handles both operations and marketing, Documentary was born from a desire to tell her family’s story.
“I have seven siblings and this is kind of like a documentary of our lives,” Holly says. “It really kind of tells that story and documentary as a space is what ties it all together”
Growing up in a creative household with seven siblings, Holly and her family filled the maximalist, intimate space with their personal belongings, memorabilia from their travels, and artistic inspirations.
From old golf clubs and longboards to curated decor, every corner reflects the identity of her family and her mother. It is a space designed to tie their shared memories together while welcoming guests to feel right at home.
A Home for the Community
At the heart of Documentary is Holly’s dedication to community building. Rather than offering a standard nightlife or party venue, the bar emphasizes meaningful, intentional connection. Documentary regularly hosts a range of community gatherings: from calming yoga sessions to lively trivia and game nights.
“I want them to take some sort of ownership,” she began. “There’s no loud music, you can talk intimately, you can make chika-chika, and you can stay the entire night. That’s how I kind of bond with my friends. That’s how I bond with my family as well.”
Reflecting on the personal vision behind the space, she added, “I want to extend that experience to other people.”
Experience Shifts From Day to Night
Documentary operates on a dual concept tailored to shift with the rhythm of the day.
From 9:00AM to 7:00PM, the space serves a variety of signature coffee drinks, including the popular Mont Blanc—a refreshing cold brew topped with cream foam and orange zest—and the customer-favorite Biscoff Latte, ideal for those who prefer a sweeter, less bitter cup.
As night falls, the cafe transforms into a cozy, low-key speakeasy bar. Happening on Thursdays to Sundays at 9:00PM up until midnight, Documentary trades loud party music for an intimate, relaxed atmosphere, giving guests a quiet sanctuary to linger and connect over well-crafted drinks.
