Manila sound is making soft rock and indie pop hug into a statement of artistic identity, exploring love, longing, and human connection. Filipino singer-songwriter SHANNi is stepping into a bold new era with her latest musical project.
Her Indie Musical Poetics
SHANNi is making waves with her brand-new EP, Cure For Loneliness. Released via Sony Music Entertainment, this 5-track collection showcases a truly confident artistic identity. Furthermore, she moves seamlessly between multiple genres. For instance, you will hear touches of Manila Sound, soft rock, sunshine pop, jazz, and indie pop. Ultimately, these elements blend together into a warm and intimate listening experience.
Longing, Connection and Love
Beyond the catchy tunes, the EP explores the deep complexities of human connection. SHANNi tackles everyday intricacies with wisdom well beyond her years. However, she remains remarkably comfortable exploring her inner darkness and pain. As she thoughtfully shares:
The songs are mostly about love and the different ways we experience it, whether through longing, connection, or simply feeling loved by the people around us,”
She adds,
As I was writing these songs, I also came to realize that I wasn’t as alone as I sometimes felt. The love and support I received from the people around me became a big part of my healing. In a way, the EP is a reminder that loneliness can be eased not only by finding love romantically, but also by recognizing the love that already exists in our lives.”
When discussing her creative process, she notes that she didn’t really want to limit herself into one genre. Instead, she explains:
Instead, I focused on what each song needed and what sound best expressed the story I wanted to tell. I think what ties everything together is the sincerity of the songwriting and the overall feeling of the EP. At the end of the day, I wanted the music to sound like me, like SHANNi, and to create a world that listeners could feel comfortable in. For me, finding my identity as an artist is about embracing the different things I love and making them my own.”
Not So Lonely Launch Party
To mark this major milestone, SHANNi is hosting an upcoming launch party. The event takes place at Theodore Events Place in Marikina City on October 31, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. Moreover, the night features an incredible lineup of guest performers. Fans can catch live sets from The Itchyworms, ena mori, One Click Straight, Suyen, Planetena, and Uncle Jonny. Looking forward to the big night, SHANNi expresses:
Having all these amazing artists come together makes the night even more meaningful, and I think it’ll be a beautiful celebration of music and community,”
More than anything, this is SHANNi’s way of saying thank you to everyone who has supported her and believed in this journey.
