For Filipino families still repairing homes after recent typhoons and earthquakes, there’s a welcome piece of good news. Pag-IBIG Fund calamity assistance is now in place, offering a one-month payment moratorium, financial protection through Housing Loan insurance, and low-interest loan options designed to make recovery less overwhelming.

The move follows the impact of Typhoons Nando, Opong, Ramil, Tino, and Uwan, as well as the earthquakes in Cebu and Davao. In many communities, the damage has made daily life harder. Pag-IBIG’s updated support package offers something every recovering household needs: breathing room.

A Whole-of-Government Push for Faster Recovery

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary and Pag-IBIG Fund Board Chairman Jose Ramon P. Aliling said the assistance aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for rapid, coordinated help for disaster-affected families.

“Guided by President Marcos’s directive for a whole-of-government response to help those affected by calamities, we are offering Housing Loan borrowers a payment moratorium and insurance coverage for damaged homes, as well as providing all our members with affordable loan options to help them recover and rebuild,” Aliling said.

In short: Pag-IBIG wants families to focus on safety and rebuilding—not overdue payments.

Insurance That Covers Home Damage

One of the most helpful—but often overlooked—benefits of a Pag-IBIG Housing Loan is the built-in insurance that protects homes against calamity damage. Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Marilene C. Acosta emphasized that this safety net is already part of a borrower’s monthly dues.

“Housing Loan borrowers whose homes were damaged can take comfort in knowing that their homes are insured, and we are reaching out to help them avail of their benefits as soon as possible,” Acosta said.

For families staring at cracked walls, broken roofs, or damaged foundations, this insurance can significantly reduce repair costs.

One-Month Moratorium for Hard-Hit Areas

Borrowers in areas placed under a state of calamity may apply for a one-month break from Housing Loan payments. The reprieve allows families to prioritize urgent needs—temporary shelter, repairs, food, utilities—without worrying about missing due dates.

Applications can be done conveniently through Virtual Pag-IBIG, avoiding long lines during recovery.

Affordable Calamity Loans for Immediate Needs

Under the Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan Program, eligible members may borrow up to 90% of their total Pag-IBIG Regular Savings at an interest rate of 5.95% per annum, the lowest among similar programs.

Borrowers enjoy:
• Up to three years to repay
• A built-in three-month grace period before the first payment

It’s a practical option for families that need quick access to funds for food, medicine, or emergency repairs.

Home Improvement Loan for Long-Term Repairs

For major fixes or home upgrades, the Pag-IBIG Home Improvement Loan allows qualified members to borrow up to ₱300,000, payable within five years. It currently comes with a promotional interest rate of 3% per annum for the first 10,000 borrowers—making long-term rebuilding more affordable.

“We know that rebuilding after a disaster takes time and resources,” Acosta said. “That is why we are providing multiple ways to help: the payment moratorium for immediate relief, the Calamity Loan for urgent needs, Housing Loan insurance for protection, and the Home Improvement Loan for restoring homes.”

A Message of Reassurance

Disasters leave emotional, financial, and structural damage—but families do not have to face recovery alone. Through Pag-IBIG Fund calamity assistance, borrowers gain options, protection, and a path forward.

Relief is available, support is active, and help is within reach.
