Dong Omaga-Diaz, an internationally award-winning Filipino fashion designer known for his exceptional craftsmanship and contributions to the fashion industry, joins Simpol.ph as one of its weekly columnists.

Dong holds the rare distinction of being elected and serving as president of two of the country’s most prestigious fashion organizations: the Young Designers Guild of the Philippines (YDG) and the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines (FDCP). Dong’s leadership in both groups has significantly shaped the local fashion scene, fostering the growth of emerging designers and promoting Filipino artistry on a global stage.

In 1999, Dong won the grand prize at the Philippine Fashion and Design Competition, earning the right to represent the country at the 17th Concours International de Jeunes Créateurs de Mode (International Young Designers Competition) in Paris, France. There, Dong won the esteemed Lesage Prize, an accolade that recognizes outstanding embroidery and craftsmanship.

As part of his award, Dong completed a scholarship at the École Broderie d’Art Lesage, a prestigious embroidery school in Paris known for training artisans who work with the world’s top haute couture houses. This experience refined his expertise in couture embellishments, further elevating his design aesthetic.

Currently, Dong serves on the advisory board of the FDCP, where Dong helps guide the future of Philippine fashion. He also shares his knowledge by teaching couture embroidery and embellishments at FAB Creatives School for the Arts, inspiring the next generation of fashion designers.

Dong continues to create exquisite, custom-designed gowns and suits for his clients’ most special occasions. At his atelier, Dong brings to life meticulously crafted pieces that reflect his signature artistry and attention to detail, making each creation a true masterpiece.
