If surviving high school meant life or death, Westerberg High would be your last choice. Fortunately, you only have to visit.

High school royalty, shoulder pads, and croquet mallets are heading straight for Manila. Starting January 21, 2027, Heathers the Musical storms The Theatre at Solaire. However, this run is strictly limited until February 7. The West End sensation brings dark comedy, sharp dialogue, and electrifying staging to Manila audiences for the first time.

Heathers The Musical Is Here!

The story draws inspiration from the 1989 cult film. It plunges us into Westerberg High, where popularity is a contact sport. At the center is Veronica Sawyer. She is smart, decidedly unpopular, and desperate to escape social exile. Suddenly, her life changes. She earns a spot in the inner circle of the Heathers. These three beautiful, ruthless girls rule the school without mercy.

As a result, Veronica gains everything she ever wanted. She gets status, attention, and a coveted seat at the top lunch table.

However, everything changes when J.D. arrives. He is a mysterious rebel who sees the real Veronica. As their bond deepens, Veronica faces a tough choice. Consequently, she must choose between her high status and the rising dangers of fitting in.

Beneath the bright lights and teen chaos, Heathers cuts deep. Ultimately, it explores friendship, identity, and the extreme lengths people go to for clout.

In fact, this blend of satire and high-energy music has earned a huge cult following since its 2013 debut in Los Angeles. Over time, the show conquered New York and West End stages. Furthermore, it won the 2019 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Musical, cementing its status as a modern classic.

Now, Manila audiences finally get their turn at Westerberg.

Meet Manila’s Veronica Sawyer

Filipino talent Gerardine Sacdalan takes center stage as Veronica. Consequently, she brings local pride to an iconic musical theatre role.

Gerardine Sacdalan takes center stage as Veronica Sawyer in Heathers the Musical.

Indeed, Sacdalan has already built an impressive global resume. She starred as Juliet in the UK tour of & Juliet. As a result, she earned a nomination for Best Professional Debut at the 10th WhatsOnStage Awards. In addition, her credits include Made in Dagenham in Concert at The London Palladium and Grease: The Immersive Musical at Battersea Park.

Meanwhile, Louis Hearsey joins her as Jason “J.D.” Dean. Liberty Stottor plays Heather Chandler, Jessica Ibadin steps in as Heather Duke, and Lou Henry plays Heather McNamara.

Additionally, the supporting cast features Veronica Carabai as Ms. Fleming and Veronica’s Mom, Sophie Manners as Martha Dunnstock, Markus Södergren as Kurt Kelly, Beau Jackson as Ram Sweeney, John Gurdían as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, and Reuben Browne as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan.

Finally, the energetic ensemble features Christian De-Gallerie, Ellouise Delooze, Caitlin Garcia, Alexander Howarth, Charlotte O’Rourke, Thomas Oxley, Tola Sokoya, and Carys Taylor.

Candy Store Anthems and Darker Turns

Naturally, no Heathers experience would be complete without its famous score.

Composers Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe created a blend of soaring ballads and high-energy anthems. For instance, fan favorites include “Seventeen,” “Candy Store,” “Meant to Be Yours,” “I Say No,” and “Dead Girl Walking.”

In fact, this wild shift between dark humor and high drama fuels the show’s lasting appeal. Beneath the glossy surface, the story reveals the messy reality of teenage life.

Behind the scenes, American director Andy Fickman leads the production alongside choreographer Gary Lloyd. Furthermore, the creative team features David Shields (design), Ben Cracknell (lighting), Dan Samson (sound), and Jeremy Wootton with Will Joy (musical supervision).

For GMG Productions CEO Carlos Candal, this show brings fresh, world-class theatre to local fans. ” Heathers is an exciting addition to our season,” Candal notes. “It is bold, irreverent, and hilarious. At the same time, its message about identity remains deeply relevant.”

This show follows other major Manila events, including Harry Potter: A Yule Ball Celebration, Cirque Alice, and The Play That Goes Wrong.

However, with Heathers, the rules change completely.

Ultimately, Westerberg High offers no quiet days. Therefore, Manila theatre lovers should grab their tickets quickly before the bell rings.
