There is something quietly reassuring about arriving in Baguio City. The pine-scented air slows the pace almost immediately, while Session Road—still the city’s beating heart—buzzes with students, families, artists, and travelers weaving through cafés and local shops. Right in the middle of that familiar rhythm stands G1 Lodge Design Hotel, a place that feels less like a conventional hotel and more like an extension of the city’s creative identity.

At first glance, the architecture tells its own story. Warm timber, clean geometric lines, and expansive glass surfaces create a modern interpretation of Cordilleran design. Rather than imitating tradition, the building reimagines it—paying homage to the region’s heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics. The result is both grounded and refreshingly current, a destination that feels as photogenic as it is welcoming.

In a city celebrated for its cool climate and enduring charm, G1 Lodge Design Hotel offers something beyond accommodation.

Built on Family Legacy

The hotel itself is rooted in family history.

For General Manager Russell Go, G1 Lodge represents decades of perseverance. His parents first came to Baguio in 1975 as students at the University of the Philippines Baguio. They built careers, established businesses, and gradually turned years of hard work into something tangible.

G1 Lodge is a culmination of all the hard work of my parents,” Go says.

This became the family’s first major project together.”

The name, too, carries quiet significance. Initially, “G1” served only as the project’s working title. The “G” represented the family’s surname, while the “1” marked their first large-scale venture as a family. Somewhere between architectural drawings and construction, the temporary name became permanent—a reminder that meaningful beginnings often happen before anyone realizes they are creating something lasting.

There are quiet corners for reading, comfortable areas for studying.

Minimalist Comfort & Fresh Spaces

That thoughtful approach extends throughout the property.

The hotel features 43 carefully curated rooms, each designed with simplicity, warmth, and functionality in mind. Instead of overwhelming guests with ornate décor, the interiors lean into natural textures, earthy tones, soft lighting, and understated elegance. Every corner feels intentional. It is minimalist without feeling cold, contemporary without losing character.

Now, returning guests have another reason to visit. G1 Lodge has unveiled fresh new accommodations on its third floor, offering newly refreshed rooms that continue the hotel’s signature design philosophy while introducing updated comforts for today’s travelers. Whether visiting for a weekend escape, a workcation, or a spontaneous mountain reset, the new rooms provide a calm retreat after a day spent exploring the city’s winding streets.

Craft Coffee & Rooftop Nights

The experience extends well beyond the guest room doors.

On the lobby floor sits Curious Coffee, where craft coffee is approached with the same level of care as the hotel’s architecture. The café invites both guests and locals to linger a little longer, whether over slow mornings, afternoon conversations, or moments of quiet reflection between city adventures.

Then comes one of G1 Lodge’s most memorable spaces: Huddle, its rooftop cafe and bar.

As daylight fades behind the Cordillera mountains, the rooftop transforms into one of the city’s most inviting gathering places. Conversations drift between tables. Music hums gently in the background. Warm lights soften the cool evening air. Friends gather over dinner, couples settle in for cocktails, and solo travelers simply watch the city lights flicker below. It captures that unmistakable Baguio feeling—cool nights, easy conversations, and the comforting sense that nowhere else demands your attention.

An Authentic Vibe for Modern Travelers

For Gen Z travelers, it is, quite simply, a vibe.

Not because it tries too hard to be trendy, but because it feels authentic. Every corner seems naturally camera-ready without sacrificing comfort. The architecture provides clean backdrops. The café serves beautifully crafted drinks. The rooftop offers golden-hour views worth lingering over. It is the kind of place where your photo dump practically edits itself, yet the moments feel richer than the pictures alone.

Still, aesthetics are only part of the story.

What makes G1 unique,” Go explains, “is first, the architecture. It’s a design hotel. Second is the location. It’s located on the iconic Session Road of Baguio City.”

That location becomes part of the guest experience. Step outside and Baguio unfolds almost immediately. Historic landmarks, restaurants, parks, local boutiques, and cafés remain comfortably within walking distance, allowing visitors to experience the city without constantly reaching for transportation.

More Than Just a Place to Stay

Go hopes guests begin making memories the moment they walk through the doors.

When they come to G1,” he says, “we want the hotel itself to feel like a tourist destination. It’s not an ordinary hotel because we have well-curated coffee, a well-curated rooftop, and thoughtfully designed rooms.”

That philosophy shapes every shared space inside the property. There are quiet corners for reading, comfortable areas for studying, inviting lounges for catching up with friends, and peaceful spots simply to pause. It acknowledges that travel means different things to different people. Some arrive seeking adventure; others come looking for stillness.

We want guests to leave with a very good experience,” Go says. “An unforgettable place where they can have fun, study, relax, contemplate, or simply enjoy being here.”

In a city celebrated for its cool climate and enduring charm, G1 Lodge Design Hotel offers something beyond accommodation. It offers a thoughtfully designed space where architecture, hospitality, and family legacy intersect. The newly refreshed third-floor rooms add another chapter to that story, while the rooftop bar and carefully curated experiences encourage guests to linger a little longer.

Perhaps that is what makes G1 memorable. It does not ask visitors to choose between comfort and character, between aesthetics and authenticity, or between exploration and rest. Instead, it quietly delivers all of them—one thoughtfully designed space at a time.
