In a time where modern commerce demands more than just financial returns, sustainable growth relies on operational innovation that blends efficiency with societal purpose. When companies rethink their day-to-day operations to prioritize environmental stewardship and human-centered development. Ethical management evolves from a compliance standard into a strategic advantage.
This holistic approach was recently put on display when the SM Group earned six accolades at the 2026 Inquirer ESG Edge Impact Awards. A recognition that highlights the conglomerate’s commitment to generating long-term value. By investing in its workforce, empowering local communities, and implementing sustainable corporate practices.
Empowering People and Communities
Under the Social category, parent company SM Investments Corporation secured two Gold awards.
The first award recognized the SM Sustainability School. An enterprise-wide education initiative designed to build environmental and social governance leadership among staff.
The second Gold award honored the SM Foundation’s Community Health Systems program. Which expands medical access across underserved regions.
Additionally, SM Investments earned a Silver award for integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles throughout its workplace culture. This framework spans talent acquisition, career development programs, internal policies, and community outreach.
This recognition belongs to our people, who bring our values to life every day,” said Frederic C. DyBuncio, President and Chief Executive Officer of SM Investments.
Nearly 100,000 employees have completed our Sustainability School, helping make responsible business part of how we think, work, and serve our customers and communities.”
Driving Environmental and Social Innovation
Subsidiaries across the group also received awards for specialized, community-focused initiatives. Under the Environment category, SM Retail earned a Silver award for its SM Green Finds program, which guides shoppers toward eco-friendly product choices.
Meanwhile, SM Prime won Gold in the Transformation category for its SM Waste-Free Future campaign. The BDO Foundation secured a Silver award in the Innovative Partnership category for its financial literacy drives.
Paving the Way for Regional Representation
Organized by the Inquirer Group of Companies, the ESG Edge Impact Awards celebrate Philippine organizations that advance environmental stewardship, social upliftment, and sound governance. Collectively, these honors reflect SM’s core philosophy that ethical practices must remain integral to business operations.
As top Gold awardees, SM Investments and SM Prime will represent the Philippines at the Asia ESG Positive Impact Awards in Malaysia this November.
