Simpol.ph welcomes new columnist to inspire educators

Maricris Bandiola Acido-Muega, Ph.D., professor of philosophy of education and values education at the UP Diliman College of Education.

Maricris Bandiola Acido, Ph.D., a professor of history and philosophy of education and values education at the University of the Philippines College of Education, is officially joining Simpol.ph as a new columnist.

She holds degrees in educational history and philosophy (2004), M.A. in philosophy (1998), and B.A. in philosophy(1994), all from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She also earned a certificate in ethics teaching from LICET in Chennai, India, under UNESCO Bangkok (2015), and a certificate in Philosophy for Children facilitation from the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children at Montclair State University in the United States (July–August 2022).

She was a Fulbright Senior Lecturing and Research Fellow at the School of Education, Indiana University Southeast (2008), participated in UNESCO Youth & Sustainable Futures (2015), and is a member of Pi Lambda Theta International Honor Society (Philippines chapter) and Pi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

She currently serves as a member of the Office for Student Ethics (formerly the Student Disciplinary Tribunal) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of the Philippines Diliman. She is also the president and executive director of the Philosophy of Education and Values Education Society, Inc. (PAVESOC, Inc.).

Dr. Acido-Muega has extensive experience in capacity-building and education research and has actively pursued collaborative work with various stakeholders and schools across the country and overseas.

Her most cherished role, however, is as a mother to her two daughters. She also has a deep love for music, literature, and history and enjoys the energy of life and the experience of working with others.
