Historically, marrying in her honor was believed to bring prosperity, fertility and lifelong happiness thus the reason behind  why June is called the wedding month.

As a Filipino designer practicing trade here in the Philippines that is not so, December to February are usually the chosen dates for weddings locally, perhaps because the weather is best that season when it’s cool than the usual and the season is merry!

The Changing Seasons of Love

Fashion trends change and that includes bridal fashion. A bride’s preference has gone from the most grand and opulent to the simpler but more elegant.

Modern brides chose to go more practical but not necessarily unwise.

The more affluent brides embrace the idea of less heavier gowns, beads are minimal and details are for highlights and not to adhere to pretending. More expensive fabrics are to be utilized for such pieces, opulence is thus whispered.

The Philippines is so lucky to have designers from all over the archipelago, Brides now need not travel to the capital for their dream wedding gowns. What’s important is for brides to have a trusted designer in mind, someone they believe can turn their dreams to reality.

On the Rise of Whispered Opulence

Jeremiah Gazo from Bago city, Negros Occidental believes that a modern bride is someone who knows her fashion aesthetics very well and is very confident in expressing her individuality.

Designing a bridal gown for him is a collaboration between his and the bride’s vision afterall it is the brides personality that should resonate from what she’s wearing and not the creators.

However, Jeremiah admires clients who are open to the out of the box ideas and is not limited to typical bridal look.

Jeremiah Gazo is first runner up at the Precious of Malaysia Cultural Fashion Festival 2025 held in Kuala Lumpur.
