Arrival at the River That Defines Bangkok

Some rivers pass through cities—and some rivers define them. The Chao Phraya belongs to the latter, shimmering with Bangkok’s pulse from morning until night. On the eve of the 74th Miss Universe coronation, I arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, recently ranked #2 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025.

Each detail works in unison to express a sense of contemporary grace without the need for flourish.

This stay was more than a hotel check-in. It felt like stepping into a conversation between art and architecture, serenity and spectacle, intimacy and scale.

A Dramatic Welcome Crafted with Thai Elegance

The hotel softened the city’s energy the moment its doors opened. Black-and-gold sculptures—a modern take on traditional Thai cabinets—framed the entrance. Reflecting pools mirrored the sky, and the soft murmur of water created instant calm.

Natural tones blend seamlessly with contemporary elements.

Inside, the lobby unfolded like a stage. Columns referenced classic Thai gold belts. The curved reception desk hinted at draped silk. Above it all, a handcrafted chandelier spiraled like a living sculpture. At the center, Pongsatat Uaiklang’s River Scape glowed in shifting amber, echoing the river outside.

A Walk Through a Living Art Gallery

The short walk to Yu Ting Yuan, the Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, felt like browsing through curated exhibits. Bas-reliefs told the history of Thai textiles. Sculptures traced the Chao Phraya’s contours. One installation made from invasive water hyacinth turned an unwanted weed into art—a quiet triumph of reinvention.

The image reflects a refined sensibility, where every element supports a setting defined by quiet luxury.

Even the Grand Ballroom shimmered with intention. Bespoke crystal chandeliers looked like suspended droplets. Sculptural pieces lined the lounges. Every corner felt precise and purposeful.

A Room Designed Around the River

My Premier River-View Room embraced a softer palette. Jim Thompson fabrics wrapped the space in texture and color. Contemporary Thai art added movement. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the Chao Phraya as it shifted from pearl at dawn to bronze at sunset. The river became a living artwork—one I could wake and fall asleep to.

A peaceful atmosphere emerges through the careful pairing of modern structure and understated beauty.

Art is the hotel’s language. Through its in-house ART Space, created with MOCA Bangkok, the hotel exhibits contemporary Thai works from the lobby to the riverfront. Guests get an immediate cultural immersion. Thai artists gain a global stage.

A Celebration After Miss Universe

After the coronation’s whirlwind, Palmier by Guillaume Galliot hosted an intimate celebratory dinner. The French brasserie menu delivered refined comfort—smoked salmon with dill cream, pan-fried foie gras, bouillabaisse, and banana-chocolate mille-feuille.

Later that night, BKK Social Club (#49 on The World’s 50 Best Bars) added a dose of glamour. Frozen margaritas, lychee martinis, and inventive bar snacks extended the celebration with a theatrical flair.

A gentle ambiance fills the space, shaped by clean forms and a dedication to timeless aesthetics.

A Riverfront Morning of Calm and Comfort

Breakfast at Riva del Fiume Ristorante brought gentle luxury. Morning light reflected off the river as a spread of pastries, fruits, charcuterie, and Asian dishes made the perfect start to a slow morning. Service was warm, polished, and intuitive—never intrusive, always present.

The harmony of balanced proportions and muted tones creates an environment rooted in calm sophistication.

A Harmony of Contrasts

Bangkok thrives on contrasts: lively streets and quiet shrines, modern towers and ancient traditions. At Four Seasons Bangkok, these differences settle into harmony. The hotel doesn’t just present luxury—it curates it. Every detail feels intentional, personal, and deeply rooted in place.

That night, walking back to my room as the river glowed gold beneath a slowly waking city, I understood that this was more than a stop along my Miss Universe journey. It became a defining chapter—artful, rich, and unforgettable.
