Some restaurants make you feel like you have stepped into another world. Burrow Cafe in Taytay, Rizal does exactly that, with its tucked-away setting and rainforest-inspired surroundings.

A Cafe Beneath the Surface

The cafe’s name comes from the idea of a rabbit hole.

According to Regina Ramos, Restaurant Manager of Burrow Cafe, the cafe’s name comes from the idea of a rabbit hole. Its underground location gives guests the feeling of stepping into a hidden space.

The space was originally meant to be a swimming pool owned by Marie and Vincent Gutierrez, who live upstairs. When they met Chef Dan Puga, however, the idea of turning the space into a restaurant took shape.

“We started small,” Ramos shares. From a team of just four, Burrow Cafe has grown into the destination it is today.

Food That Feels Like Home

At the heart of Burrow Cafe is a menu built around homemade favorites.

At the heart of Burrow Cafe is a menu built around homemade favorites and dishes that have stayed with the cafe through the years.

One of its longest-running dishes is the beef tapa, which has been on the menu for eight years. The brisket is another bestseller, while the French toast and omelettes remain crowd favorites.

For guests looking to try something different, Burrow also serves homemade pasta, lechon kawali, and plant-based dishes. Among these is the fresh cachaviche, a no-meat taco made with red kidney beans and a favorite of Marie Gutierrez.

The meal can end with the crunchy suman alamo, a homemade black suman that gives a familiar Filipino treat a creative touch.

A Space for Local Creativity

Food is only part of the Burrow experience. The cafe also reflects the Gutierrez family’s love for nature, crafts, and locally made products.

Every May, during the cafe’s anniversary, or in November, Burrow holds an artisan bazaar featuring small local artists and makers. Guests can find paintings, handmade crafts, fans, honey, and other keepsakes that they can bring home or give as gifts.

Many of the pieces also come from members of the Gutierrez family, making the space feel even more personal.

A Home Away From Home

The goal is simple: make guests feel welcome, cared for, and at home.

For Ramos, the goal is simple: make guests feel welcome, cared for, and at home. From the food to the takeout packaging, Burrow adds a personal touch to the experience. More than simply serving a meal, the cafe hopes guests leave with a reason to return.

“We wanted them to feel the home, parang it’s a home far away from home,” Ramos says.

Located in Taytay, Rizal, with its entrance through Antipolo’s Beverly Hills Subdivision, Burrow Cafe invites guests to discover a little hideaway where food, family, nature, and local creativity come together.
