Bored with typical burgers, Chef Tatung creates his own hit

Celebrity chef Tatung Sarthou had one mission and that is to find a burger in Metro Manila that truly hit the spot. But when every bite left him unsatisfied, he took matters into his own hands.

“I couldn’t find the kind of burger I wanted, so I made it myself,” he said. And just like that, Hit N Bun was born.

Unlike many burger joints that rely on gimmicks, Hit N Bun is all about simplicity done right, with no over-the-top toppings, no unnecessary frills, just damn good burgers.

“It’s all about a great patty and great bread,” Chef Tatung explained. “It’s comforting, nostalgic, and made with care, something you can’t just recreate at home.”

According to Chef Tatung, every burger at Hit N Bun is crafted with quality you can taste. The chain’s signature fire-grilled burgers feature juicy, quarter-pound beef patties, buttery toasted buns, and house-made patties prepared fresh daily.

“We make our own patties. That way, we control everything — the juiciness, the bite, the flavor. Nothing is left to chance,” Chef Tatung said.

Even the name Hit N Bun carries a playful punch, Chef Tatung noted. It’s a twist on ‘hit and run’ because it’s quick, convenient, and satisfying. Designed for busy diners and optimized for delivery, it promises a great meal without the wait.

But what truly sets it apart is the perfect balance. “Our burgers are indulgent yet well-balanced. The patties are thick and flavorful, the buns buttery and soft. It just works,” he said.

That philosophy shines through in the chain’s tagline. HIT, which stands for hearty, indulgent, and tasty, is crafted to crush your cravings every single time.

The Hit N Bun menu features an array of burgers, each designed to satisfy different cravings.

The Classic Hamburger is a fire-grilled quarter-pound beef patty, simple yet deeply satisfying, while the Classic Cheeseburger is topped with melted American cheese, house-made pickles, lettuce, tomato, and sautéed onions. The Backyard BBQ Cheeseburger offers a smoky, savory bite with house-smoked bacon, melted cheese, and a tangy barbecue kick, while the Hit Signature Burger features truffled mushroom duxelle, sautéed onions, house-smoked bacon, and a fire-grilled beef patty.

The Chorizo Burger brings a Filipino-inspired twist with a chorizo patty, pickled vegetables, and a sweet-savory barbecue sauce, while the Chicken BBQ Burger serves up grilled chicken with smoky barbecue sauce, crisp lettuce, tomato, and onions. Hit N Bun also serves artisan hot dogs with premium, fire-grilled sausages nestled in soft, toasted buns.

The chain’s location at 45 Kamuning Road in Quezon City holds personal significance for Chef Tatung. “This was originally our bakery unit, and in just a month, we turned it into the burger shop I’ve always wanted,” he said.

Hit N Bun is redefining what a great burger should be, he noted. And once you take a bite, you’ll understand why it’s a craving worth coming back for.
