Love has the power to heal, haunt, and transform, often leaving behind scars that remain long after the moment has passed. These bittersweet realities come alive in Mapanakit: Mga Dulang Bittersweet. A trio of one-act plays that unravels the many faces of love through tales that are both intimately personal and unmistakably Filipino.

From Biñan to the Professional Stage

Debuting on July 25, this production is a thrilling leap forward for the local theater scene. As the inaugural show of YPC Stage, the professional touring wing of the Biñan Youth Performance Council Inc. (YPC). It becomes the first homegrown Biñan theater work to go beyond city lines.

After a triumphant community run in December 2025, Mapanakit returns, bringing its genuine roots to a larger stage with the polish and ambition of professional theater.

The Creative Vision and Stellar Cast

With BJ Borja at the helm and acclaimed playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc penning the script. The production intertwines three unique tales, all bound by the detailed tapestry of love.

Through lyrical dialogue and sincere storytelling, the plays beckon audiences to travel through heartbreak, longing, healing, and hope. Rising stars share the stage with celebrated veterans of Philippine theater. Generating a vibrant exchange between new voices and seasoned talent.

These bittersweet realities come alive in Mapanakit: Mga Dulang Bittersweet, a trio of one-act plays that unravels the many faces of love.

The Trilogy: Three Faces of Love

The evening opens with Ang Liknayan ng Ating mga Katawan. In which a student, Hershey Mae (Jury Sanchez), confronts her chemistry teacher, Sir Banakon (Ross Pesigan), over a controversial research paper that is shaking their school community.

As scientific reasoning collides with emotional truth, the play asks whether love can ever be measured, or dismissed—as merely irrational.

Next, Ilihan at Kalingaw carries audiences to a mythical domain where history is curated by those in power. When the tribe’s poet-historian, Ilihan (Gab Pangilinan), secretly writes love poems for Kalingaw (Euden Moje). A man she is forbidden to love. She challenges tradition and questions whose stories deserve to be remembered.

Completing the trilogy is Ganito ang Pinangarap Kong Kasal. An intimate portrait of love, friendship, and identity. Longtime couple Noel (Kokoy de Santos) and France (Phi Palmos) have spent years keeping their relationship hidden. With their closest friend Kris (Loudette Barias) standing beside them through life’s quiet milestones.

As societal expectations begin to reshape their future, the three must face difficult choices about loyalty and the cost of living authentically.

A Mirror to the Filipino Experience

Collectively, these plays echo experiences that resonate with many Filipinos. Through tales of secret love, silent sacrifice, and the longing for acceptance. Mapanakit gently reminds us that the most moving stories often spring from the everyday lives we lead.

This production constitutes a bold chapter for YPC Stage. Drawing from almost twenty years of community theater and youth empowerment. The company sets out to share homegrown stories with wider audiences while preserving their original spirit.

In doing so, it shows that tales nurtured in local communities can shine brightly on professional stages throughout Metro Manila and beyond.
