For many Filipino musicians abroad, the journey is not just about finding new audiences—it is about finding a way back.
On December 29, 2025, that return takes shape at 70’s Bistro in Quezon City, as Bistro Rising 2025 brings together Filipino indie artists based in Singapore and the Philippines for a night shaped by shared sound and lived experience. What began as separate scenes across borders now meets on one stage.
Co-headlining the show are three Singapore-based Filipino bands that have steadily built followings within the Lion City’s underground circuit: iLaya, a soul-pop act; Nostress, an indie rock outfit; and The Next Wave, whose sound draws from ’80s new wave influences. Their return to Manila is less about arrival and more about continuity—artists shaped elsewhere, reconnecting with the place that first formed them.
They are joined by two Philippine-based acts: Shumi, a Bulacan-rooted city pop band, and Rooftop Reveries, an indie pop-rock group known for their reflective songwriting and polished live performances. Together, the lineup reflects a generation of Filipino musicians navigating identity across cities while remaining anchored in the same creative language.
The show is presented by Mushi Entertainment, whose work has often focused on placing diasporic and homegrown Filipino artists on the same stage. In collaboration with Singapore-based partners, including Requiem Rising, the group has helped sustain an exchange between scenes—one that treats movement across borders as part of how Filipino indie music continues to evolve.
“This event is a testament to the vibrant and growing indie music community in both Singapore and the Philippines, creating opportunities for creative collaboration and talent showcase,” said Monx Moncayo, General Manager and Founder of Requiem Rising Singapore.

A Familiar Room, A Wider Story
Filipino indie music has always thrived in small venues and tight-knit communities. 70’s Bistro, long known as a home for local live music, provides a fitting setting for a show that bridges distance without losing intimacy.
Bistro Rising 2025 does not frame diaspora as departure. Instead, it recognizes it as extension—an ongoing conversation between artists who left, those who stayed, and those who continue to move between worlds. For audiences in Manila, the night offers a chance to hear how familiar sensibilities take on new textures abroad, then return with a slightly altered voice.
