Long before it was a global tech powerhouse or a culinary center, Portuguese sailors charting the Pacific looked upon this dramatic, emerald mass of land and called it Ilha Formosa—the “Beautiful Island.”
Today, that raw, breathtaking beauty remains largely untamed just beyond the city limits.
Taiwan’s landscape is a masterclass in geographical drama. Taiwan’s current tourism renaissance isn’t just about showing travelers a destination. It’s about inviting them to experience these “waves of wonder” firsthand, proving that this compact island holds entire continents worth of natural majesty.
A Historic Milestone in Southeast Asian Travel
The number of Filipino travelers journeying to Taiwan has surged to an unprecedented historical high. According to recent statistics from the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, more than 210,000 Filipino visitors arrived in Taiwan between January and March 2026. This impressive figure represents a remarkable 43 percent increase compared to the same period last year, effectively securing the Philippines’ position as the top source market among Southeast Asian nations.
This rapid growth is largely fueled by Free Independent Travelers (FIT), who account for 66.2 percent of all arrivals and demonstrate strong development potential. Recognizing this momentum, the TTA has assembled a massive tourism delegation consisting of 53 representatives from 28 prominent organizations.
This group—which includes local governments, airlines, tourism associations, theme parks, shopping centers, and travel agencies—will travel to Manila to host the highly anticipated Taiwan Travel Fair. Furthermore, the delegation will organize specialized Taiwan Tourism Workshops in both Manila and Cebu to strengthen bilateral cooperation and actively expand mutual tourism opportunities.
Immersive Experiences in the Heart of Makati
In a strategic move to engage middle-to-high-income consumers and international business professionals, the TTA has selected Makati, Manila’s premier commercial and business district, as the venue for the upcoming fair.
The Taiwan Travel Fair will take place from June 12 to 14 at the Activity Center of Glorietta by Ayala Malls, a bustling shopping hub that welcomes approximately 150,000 visitors daily. Positioned at one of the mall’s highest-traffic intersections, the event will benefit from continuous exposure via giant LED displays broadcasting vibrant promotional videos.
Designed around a seasonal theme integrated with the “Taiwan – Waves of Wonder” brand identity, the exhibition space will recreate iconic Taiwanese landmarks, including the historic Alishan Forest Railway and colorful neon street scenes. Through this immersive environment, the fair will highlight Taiwan’s safe, vibrant, and around-the-clock travel experiences.
In addition to the visual displays, the event will feature a variety of cultural and interactive experiences. Visitors can enjoy tasting sessions featuring Taiwan’s signature brown sugar bubble milk. Also an interactive DIY workshop for Dragon Boat Festival Scented Sachets. And lastly, some crafting sessions for Lantern Festival sky-lantern-themed ornaments.
To further energize the atmosphere, the fair will showcase performances by the Diabolo Walker, a group that redefines traditional diabolo acts through highly challenging techniques, creative musical arrangements, and dynamic body movements as they strive toward the world stage of performing arts. Attendees can also participate in lively, interactive Zumba Fitness dance sessions.
Digital Influence and Cross-Sector Incentives
To amplify its social media presence and connect with digital audiences, the campaign has invited popular Filipino influencers Cocoy Lim and Rosie Domingo to share their personal travel experiences in Taiwan. Through engaging, real-time interactions, their participation aims to enhance Filipino audiences’ interest in Taiwanese tourism.
Furthermore, visitors who purchase travel products on-site will receive special gifts, including exclusive Taiwan-themed souvenirs. In a pioneering partnership, the TTA is collaborating with Chunghwa Telecom and its EASY SIM service to provide complimentary five-day Taiwan SIM cards, significantly boosting purchasing incentives and visitor engagement. Thanks to these comprehensive cross-sector marketing efforts, the event is expected to generate over NT$20 million in business opportunities.
Following the consumer fair, the delegation will pivot to industry networking by hosting two B2B Taiwan Tourism Workshops. The first will take place on June 15 at the Makati Diamond Residences, followed by a second session on June 17 at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu. More than 250 participants—including Philippine travel agencies, airlines, and media representatives—are expected to attend, paving the way for deeper industry exchanges and heightened visibility across the Philippine travel market.
A Young Market Driven by Digital Trends
The Philippines possesses substantial tourism potential, driven largely by its young demographic profile of approximately 116 million people with an average age of just twenty-six. As economic growth continues and the middle class expands, the demand for outbound travel has steadily increased; in 2025, outbound departures from the Philippines reached 7.64 million, representing a 12 percent increase over 2024. Supported by convenient flight connections and Taiwan’s visa-free trial policy, interest in the destination has skyrocketed, allowing Taiwan to rise as the fourth-largest outbound travel destination for the Philippines within a single year.
Meanwhile, promotion through social media and short-form video platforms has significantly boosted interest in Taiwanese cuisine, natural landscapes, railway tourism, and traditional festival experiences, particularly among younger travelers.
The TTA emphasized that it will continue working through its Taiwan Tourism Information Center in Manila and closely collaborate with local partners, airlines, digital communities, and influencer resources. Future promotional efforts will focus on four major themes—food, festivals, theme parks, and nature/ecotourism—through targeted marketing strategies designed to further drive Filipino visitor arrivals and elevate Taiwan–Philippines tourism exchanges to new heights.
Exclusive Perks for Upcoming Travelers
Officials note that now is the perfect time to visit Taiwan, with a range of exciting benefits currently available for Filipino tourists. Visitors who complete a simple survey at the Taiwan Pavilion will receive exclusive gifts.
Furthermore, those who purchase a Taiwan travel itinerary worth over 20,000 Philippine pesos (PHP) on-site will earn a chance to win exciting prizes, including round-trip tickets from Manila to Taipei, luxury accommodation vouchers, and other grand rewards. Travelers looking for the best value and exclusive travel deals are encouraged to visit the Activity Center of Glorietta by Ayala Malls during the June 12–14 exhibition.
