The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines have announced the appointment of South Korean actor and singer Seo In Guk (서인국) as the Philippines’ celebrity tourism ambassador for Korea.

The announcement was made during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony held Friday, Feb. 21, at the DOT office.

The partnership aims to strengthen cultural and tourism ties between the Philippines and South Korea, currently the top source of international visitors to the country.

Seo In Guk, a well-loved figure in the Korean entertainment industry with a global fanbase, is known for his performances in hit dramas such as Reply 1997, Doom at Your Service, and Shopping King Louie.

Through this collaboration, the DOT aims to boost the Philippines’ profile as a premier travel destination for Korean tourists. As part of his ambassadorial role, Seo In Guk will participate in various promotional activities in both countries, showcasing destinations like Boracay, Cebu, and Manila. His efforts will highlight the Philippines’ natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and world-renowned hospitality through media campaigns and tourism initiatives.

The DOT and TPB emphasized that Seo In Guk will play a key role in positioning the Philippines as a must-visit destination for both returning and first-time Korean travelers.

Seo In Guk loves the Philippines

South Korean actor and singer Seo In Guk expressed his excitement and gratitude after being officially named the Philippines’ celebrity tourism ambassador for Korea by the DOT.

Known for his successful career in music and acting, Seo has built a strong bond with his Filipino fanbase, especially after his memorable fan meeting in Manila last year.

“Thank you. It feels very nice, and it’s an honor for me to be on this stage,” Seo said in Korean. “I feel a great responsibility as a representative and promoter of a country. I really, really want to thank everyone for making this happen for me, and I want to give back all the love you have given me. I will do my best to promote the Philippines to others in the future. Thank you very much. Mahal ko kayo.

The newest celebrity tourism ambassador also shared his recent experience in Cebu, where he enjoyed the world-famous lechon — a Filipino delicacy known for its crispy skin and flavorful meat. He fondly recalled the enthusiastic crowd that gathered to sing for him during his meal, making the moment even more unforgettable.

As a beloved figure in Korean entertainment, Seo’s passion for travel and his deep connection with his Filipino fans are expected to play a significant role in promoting the Philippines as a must-visit destination.
