Ingredients

Set A: For Boiling

  • 1 kg fresh ubod (heart of palm)

  • Boiling water

  • Salt, to taste

Set B: Wrapper

  • 1/2 cup flour

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • 4 Tbsps sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 8 whole eggs

  • 4 Tbsps oil

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup fresh milk

Set C: Filling

  •  1 pc white onion, minced
  • 1/4 kg ground pork
  • 1 pc carrot, julienned
  • 1/2 cup shrimp, diced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water with 2 tbsp cornstarch dissolved.
  • 1 sachet Maggi Magic Sarap
  • Patis and Black pepper, to taste

Set D: Sauce

  • 1/4 cup garlic, finely minced

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1 1/4 cups water

  • 2 Tbsps peanut butter

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1/4 cup water or milk

  • 1/2 pack Maggi Magic Sarap

Set E: Garnish

  • Crushed peanuts

  • Minced garlic

  • Lettuce leaves (for assembling)

Instructions

1. Boil the Ubod (Set A)
In a pot of boiling water seasoned with salt, cook the ubod until tender. Drain and let cool. Once cooled, julienne the ubod, cutting against the grain.

2. Prepare the Wrapper Batter (Set B)
In a bowl, sift together the flour, cornstarch, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, beat the eggs and add oil, water, and milk. Combine with the flour mixture and strain to remove lumps. Let the batter rest.

Cook the Wrappers
Heat a lightly greased non-stick pan over medium heat. Pour a small amount of batter and swirl to coat the pan. Cook until the wrapper is set. Do not flip. Repeat with remaining batter.

3. Cook the Filling (Set C)
Heat oil in a pan. Sauté onion and pork until browned. Add carrots and boiled ubod. Stir in slurry and season with Maggi Magic Sarap and salt. Cook until vegetables are tender. Add shrimp finish with patties and black pepper to taste. Mix well. Set aside in a colander to drain excess liquid.

4. Make the Sauce (Set D)
In a pot, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, and water. Stir until cornstarch is dissolved. Add peanut butter, soy sauce, oyster sauce, milk or water, and minced garlic. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.

5. Assemble the Lumpia
Place a wrapper on a plate, lay a lettuce leaf in the center, and spoon in the filling. Fold and roll neatly. Pour sauce on top and garnish with crushed peanuts and minced garlic. The addition of cilantro (wansuy) as garnish will give this recipe added flavor.

Simpol Cooking Notes

  • Ubod can be substituted with singkamas or togue for a different crunch.

  • You can prepare the wrappers and filling in advance for faster assembly.

  • For a vegetarian version, skip the pork and shrimp and add tofu.

  • The sauce can be stored in the fridge and reheated before serving.

  • Fresh, healthy, and flavorful—this Lumpiang Sariwa Recipe is perfect for sharing with family or enjoying solo with your favorite merienda drink!
