How to Make Filipino Sweet-Style Spaghetti Recipe

No Filipino birthday celebration is ever complete without a big serving of Filipino sweet-style spaghetti. It’s that iconic red pasta dish, loaded with hotdogs, creamy sauce, and lots of cheese, that brings everyone running to the table. Whether you’re five or fifty-five, one forkful transports you back to childhood parties and family gatherings. Let’s bring that joy into your kitchen!

INGREDIENTS

Set A (Pasta):

  • 2 packs (360g each) spaghetti noodles, cooked per package directions


  • Water, as needed

  • Salt, to taste

Set B (Sauce):

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 1 piece large onion, chopped

  • 1 red bell pepper minced (optional)
  • ¼ kilogram ground pork

  • ¼ kilogram ground beef

  • 2 packs Maggi Magic Sarap
  • 4 tablespoons fish sauce

  • 1 pack (500 grams) Sweet Filipino Style Spaghetti Sauce

  • 1 bottle (320 grams) banana catsup

  • ¼ bottle hot & spicy banana catsup, or as desired

  • 1 can carnation condensed milk

  • ½ cup grated cheese

  • 500 grams hotdogs, cut diagonally (reserve half for garnish)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Set C (Garnish):

  • 1 cup grated cheese

  • Sliced hotdogs (from Set B)

How to Cook Filipino Sweet-Style Spaghetti:

  1. Cook the Pasta (Set A):

    • Boil water in a large pot. Add salt and a little oil (optional).

    • Cook spaghetti noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  2. Make the Sauce (Set B):

    • Heat oil in a large pan. Sauté garlic and onion until aromatic.

    • Add ground pork and beef. Cook until browned.

    • Season with fish sauce and cook for another 2 minutes.

    • Stir in sweet-style spaghetti sauce, banana catsup, and hot & spicy catsup.

    • Pour in condensed milk and mix well.

    • Add grated cheese and hotdogs. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Combine:

    • Toss the cooked spaghetti noodles into the sauce. Mix well to coat.

  4. Garnish (Set C):

    • Plate the spaghetti. Top with grated cheese and reserved hotdog slices.

Simpol Cooking Notes:

  • Adjust the level of sweetness and spice according to your taste. You can use more or less condensed milk and hot & spicy catsup.

  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, simmer a bit longer before adding the pasta.

  • This dish is best served with garlic bread or soft pan de sal on the side.
