Eala never stops.

Just a year ago, Alex Eala was completely heartbroken after losing a brutal, three-set battle to Maya Joint at the Eastbourne finals.

But fast forward to this year’s Wimbledon, she found herself facing those exact same tennis ghosts.

Crushing it on the biggest grass stage in the sport, Alex contributes in writing HERSTORY for the Philippines. In doing so, she reclaimed the big win she deserved all along.

As tennis film Challengers quoted, the tennis court is a conversation.

And Alex definitely showed up to have the last word.

From Heartbreak to Redemption

Alex Eala made history on the grass courts of Wimbledon. A year ago, she left Eastbourne heartbroken after a grueling three-set finals loss to Maya Joint.

From heartbreak to history. Alex Eala gets her revenge a year later, overcoming the past to secure her historic Grand Slam spot.

This year, fate brought them together again on the biggest stage in tennis.

To advance, Eala had to overcome the ghosts of her past.

Ultimately, she did exactly that.

Turning the pain of loss into a launchpad for success.

Palaban Filipina Bounced Back!

The match started with a familiar scare. Specifically, Eala dropped the first set 3-6 after losing her early lead.

However, the Filipina star refused to back down. Instead, she adjusted her game and dominated the second set 6-2.

By the final set, Eala was unstoppable. She took advantage of Joint’s errors and delivered a flawless 6-0 bagel to close out the match.

Consequently, the entire battle lasted one hour and 57 minutes.

While she anticipates a tough match for the slam, Eala also iterates that she’s ready to face the third round head on, and is also going to make it tough for her match.

The first ever, Filipina Tennis Player to make it to Slam’s third round.

On the latest Wimbledon Press Conference, Eala also expressed her sentiments on being the first ever Filipino to enter the Grand Slams open era.

It sounds super impactful when you say it like that, but yes,  it’s an amazing thing for me to be able to do that for my country.

But I guess it’s also very emotional everytime im able to pass a new step or new ground just because it’s also personal goals and achievement”

Eala adds,

It’s things that I’ve been really working hard for, it’s things that my team also worked hard for.

But I think first and foremost, it makes me super proud because of the work i’ve put on”

Overall, it was a difficult match, and Eala is really proud of how she held her ground.

Once it grows, It never stops

With this victory, Eala became the first Filipino player ever to reach the third round of a Grand Slam.

Next up, she will face either Karolina Pliskova or World No. 3 Iga Swiatek in the third round of the Wimbledon women’s singles on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Furthermore, her day is far from over, as she also transitions to doubles action alongside Nikola Bartunkova. They are scheduled to face the powerhouse duo of Jelena Ostapenko and Sofia Kenin.

Alex Eala never stops. On growing, and never stopping.

Wrapping the Second Round Press Conference, Alex Eala shared a proud statement from Nike’s gesture.

Kapag lumago, Hindi na hihinto”

This embroidered quote loosely translates — once it grows, it can not be stopped. Nike brought the sampaguita themed tennis wear for Eala’s match along the embroidered cap.

For her, carrying parts of her culture highlighted her pride in being Filipino. This gesture ignited her energy to keep the fire burning.

Alex Eala has proven that a past loss is not the end.

Instead, it is simply the setup for a legendary comeback.
