Far Eastern University (FEU) has received the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Institutional Certification, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, sustainability, and community engagement.

The certification recognizes FEU’s strong governance and overall quality, ensuring it meets ASEAN regional standards. It also reinforces the university’s reputation, complementing its 18 AUN-QA program accreditations, which assess the quality of specific academic programs.

The AUN-QA Institutional Assessment highlighted FEU’s core values, innovative student development initiatives, and dedication to quality education. The university’s Community Extension Services were commended for their research-driven alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As part of the assessment, AUN-QA experts evaluated two of FEU’s flagship community initiatives. One is its partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, which equips female inmates with life and work skills to help them reintegrate into society. The other, Project Mangyan, supports indigenous communities by preserving traditions while providing sustainable livelihood training and essential resources.

The university’s environmental sustainability efforts also earned recognition. Its 4.4-hectare Manila campus — known as a “green campus” both in design and practice — features lush gardens, quiet spaces, and five Art Deco buildings recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. FEU has pioneered eco-friendly initiatives, including a chilled water district cooling system and, more recently, a centralized potable water filtration and distribution plant, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The university also runs entirely on renewable energy.

With this certification, FEU strengthens its position as a leading institution in Southeast Asia, joining an elite group that includes just three Philippine universities in the Quacquarelli Symonds Rankings with AUN Institutional Accreditation.

“It’s very pleasing to note that we have in place, first and foremost, the right personnel and organization, that our facilities are high level, and that our systems and governance practices are robust enough to deliver consistent quality education,” said FEU President Juan Miguel Montinola.
