It was a journey defined by unforeseen twists, setbacks, and yet another year spent waiting. When her moment finally arrived, she carried a story that began not on a large stage, but in the bustling aisles of a public market, where she stood next to her mother, working to make ends meet.
In Somabay, Egypt, that wait finally ended. Santos was crowned Miss Elite World 2026, defeating 35 other delegates and extending the Philippines’ reign in the competition following Juvyel Anne Saluta’s victory in 2024. She also took home the Best in Evening Gown award.
From Public Market to Purposeful Advocacy
Yet it was her words during the competition that revealed the heart and spirit behind the crown.
Asked about social media’s role in bringing people together, Santos spoke about its capacity to connect individuals and give them a platform to tell their stories. She linked her response to Soph Heart, her campaign focused on empowering Indigenous communities, particularly young people.
Eventually came the question that brought her own story into the spotlight. Santos spoke about growing up in a public market and helping her mother with their business.
I want to share my story that I grew up in a public market to help my mom with our finances,”
she said.
That showed me the value of hard work and the significance of never giving up.”
Her answer felt deeply personal, expressing the heart of her experience. The road to Egypt had already taught her patience and the courage to start again.
A Two-Year Test of Patience and Setbacks
Santos first stepped into the national pageant spotlight in 2024, when she competed in Miss World Philippines and finished as Second Princess. She later joined Miss Grand Philippines that same year and received the Universal Woman Philippines title after Christine Juliane Opiaza won the national crown.
That opportunity, however, came with an unexpected complication: Santos was ineligible for the international competition due to its age requirements. The title was subsequently awarded to Jasmine Omay.
In 2025, Santos was appointed as the Philippines’ representative to Miss Elite World. Once again, she had to wait, as the competition in Egypt did not take place as originally scheduled, pushing her international debut further into the future.
For someone whose dream was to represent her country, it was yet another trial of patience. Two years after walking onto her first national stage, Santos finally began the quest she had long envisioned.
Claiming Victory on the World Stage
In Egypt, the Kapampangan beauty quietly but confidently claimed her space. She dazzled in the evening gown segment, earning top honors, and her poise in the question-and-answer rounds carried her into the Top 5.
When asked why she deserved to represent the brand on the world stage, Santos chose honesty over pageant platitudes. She turned once more to the story that had defined her.
I waited two years for this moment,”
she said.
She shared lessons from her upbringing, the early mornings spent helping her mother, and how she came to understand the true meaning of hard work. Then, she revealed what the crown truly symbolized for her.
And if I were to win tonight, I am ready. I am ready not only to wear the crown, but also to carry the responsibility with a heart, a purpose, and genuineness.”
Santos came out victorious, with Venezuela’s Anabelly Ojeda named first runner-up, Tanzania’s Sharon Julius Ndasala as second runner-up, Bulgaria’s Viktoria Lazarova as third runner-up, and Belgium’s Jera Redant completing the Top 5.
This feat brought the Philippines its second Miss Elite World title, and for Santos, it was the long-awaited international crown she had dreamed of.
The Municipal Government of Guagua congratulated Santos as a proud daughter of the town, noting her paternal roots in Barangay Bancal. For her hometown, the international title became another reason to celebrate a young woman whose journey has taken her from a local community to a stage in Egypt.
Her victory was also part of a strong year for ALV Pageant Circle. Earlier this year, Anne De Mesa won Miss Tourism Worldwide in Malaysia, while Marga Briton captured the Miss Interglobal title in Indonesia.
For Santos, Egypt meant more than just another title. Her journey proved it was never about a swift ascent to the crown, but about the depth of her tenacity and resolve to earn it. She had already experienced the disappointment of finishing without the top prize. She had been handed an international opportunity only to see it delayed.
When her moment on stage finally came, she carried more than just a sash and a flag. She brought with her the echoes of the public market, the knowledge she gained from helping her mother, the burden of years spent persevering, and a firm determination to seize her chance.
Now, Sophia Bianca Santos returns home not merely as another beauty queen, but as a woman who at last claimed the moment she had dreamed of for so long. In the end, the crown is just a chapter. The pursuit really made the story hers; the crown is only part of it. The pursuit is what made it hers.
