Get ready to turn up the volume and then wind it back down! Filipino events powerhouse Minsan Studio is bringing back its hit series, “Minsan Gig sa Skydome,” for an epic double-header this May 8 and 9, 2026. This isn’t your typical stiff concert; it is a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Route 196 era, designed to bridge the gap between the golden days of indie bars and the modern live music scene.

Through the mix of deep-rooted nostalgia with a fresh, inclusive vibe, the series aims to remind everyone why we fell in love with live Filipino music in the first place.

The Visionaries behind the Vibe

This musical movement did not just appear out of thin air. It was dreamt up by local music icons Monty Macalino of Mayonnaise and Jugs Jugueta of the Itchyworms, alongside Minsan Studio founder Jason Conanan. Their mission was simple: strip away the formalities of massive stadium shows and return to the unadulterated joy of the gig.

By moving the spirit of the underground scene into a more accessible space, they are reuniting the artists and fans who once called Route 196 home, while inviting a whole new generation into the fold.

A New Way to Experience the Beat

Forget what you know about rigid event schedules. These shows are all about freedom and comfort. Minsan Studio is ditching the usual concert pressure for a free-flowing atmosphere where attendees can watch at their own pace. Whether you want to catch every single chord, step out for a quick breather, or grab a snack and hang out, the venue is your playground. It is a space that mirrors the organic, laid-back nature of a neighborhood bar, but with the added perks of air-conditioning and flexible viewing options.

Accessibility is the name of the game for Jason Conanan and his team. By choosing the SM Skydome—perched right on top of the North’s most iconic mall—the production makes it easy for everyone to join the fun. Between budget-friendly ticket prices and a venue that is a breeze to get to, they are opening the doors for people who might not usually frequent late-night bars. It has all the grit and passion of a rock show, but with the comfort of mall-side convenience.

Friday Night Fever: Minsan Maingay

The weekend kicks off on May 8 with “Minsan Maingay” (Sometimes Loud), a night dedicated to high-octane energy and heavy distortion. Rock enthusiasts can expect a relentless wave of sound from a powerhouse lineup that includes Sandwich, Mayonnaise, NOBITA, Setsuna, One Click Straight, Chicosci, and Fragments. It is the ultimate destination for those looking to lose themselves in a wall of sound and feel the raw power of the local rock scene.

Saturday Soul: Minsan Malumanay

On May 9, the atmosphere shifts with “Minsan Malumanay” (Sometimes Calm). While the energy remains high, the sound turns toward the indie and alternative side of the spectrum. Fans will be treated to the melodic stylings of The Ridleys, Minaw, The Bloomfields, Jensen & The Flips, Soapdish, El Manu, and Amiel Sol. Adding a unique twist to the evening, the show also features a stand-up set by comedian James Caraan, ensuring the community vibe is rounded out with plenty of laughter.

A Community, Not a Crowd

At its core, “Minsan Gig sa Skydome” is about connection rather than spectacle. It is a communal space where the barrier between the stage and the audience disappears. As Conanan famously describes it, “Hindi ito concert. Gig lang. Enjoy lang.”

For those looking to secure their spot at this two-night celebration, tickets and further details can be found through Minsan Studios’ official social media channels.
