Support Filipino Potato Farmers: Buy Benguet Potatoes at ₱80/kg

Make the Most of Your Potatoes—and Make a Difference

Each harvest begins with hands in the soil. In the highlands of Benguet, farmers like this one work tirelessly to bring fresh, local potatoes to our tables. This season, let’s make sure their effort doesn’t go to waste.

Rather than wait for a rescue effort, we’re choosing to act now to support Filipino potato farmers. Together with local chefs, growers, and food advocates, we’re moving the harvest through direct sales at fair prices. Every kilo you buy helps farmers earn what they deserve.

“Carrots, for example, can swing from ₱5 to ₱500 per kilo,” explains @ChefWaya Araos-Wijanco. “Farmers rejoice when prices are high, but when they drop, many fall deep into debt. It’s hard to plan, hard to survive.”

How You Can Support Filipino Potato Farmers
You can make an immediate impact by buying Benguet-grown potatoes at ₱80 per kilo, with a minimum of 5 kilos per order.
Pick up your orders at BGC and UP Diliman weekend markets over the next three weekends.

When you support Filipino potato farmers through this campaign, you’re not just shopping local—you’re helping lift farmers out of the price-drop cycle. You become part of a more fair and resilient food economy.

Why We Must Support Filipino Potato Farmers Now
Price crashes often hit farmers hardest during peak harvest. Despite having abundant produce, many can’t afford to transport or sell at a profit. When that happens, they either sell at a loss, rely on rescue buyers, or throw away food that should feed families.

“We want to raise the floor price,” says Chef Waya. “So our Benguet farmers can meet their costs and earn fairly—not just during good years, but every harvest.”

By acting now, we reduce waste, stabilize prices, and give farmers the security to plan their next planting season with confidence.

Dine for a Cause at Gourmet Gypsy
Chef Waya’s restaurant, Gypsy Baguio by @GourmetGypsy, is also part of this effort. The restaurant offers a Buy 1 Take 1 promo on its signature potato leek soup, made with—you guessed it—Benguet potatoes.

All proceeds from this promo help fund the transportation and distribution of the harvest.

“It’s a small step,” Chef Waya notes, “but when more of us join in—restaurants, families, cooks—it becomes something bigger.”
