Nowhere else in the world does the holiday season begin quite as early or as enthusiastically as it does in the Philippines. The moment September arrives, ushering in the celebrated “ber” months, a familiar and magical transformation takes hold of the country.

Radio stations begin to play beloved carols, vibrant star-shaped parols appear on neighborhood streets, and the evening breeze carries a subtle, cooling shift.

Recipes evolve across generations and families, carrying old memories forward while welcoming new ones.

The Familiar Comfort of a Filipino Christmas

For Filipinos, this four-month countdown is not just an extended holiday schedule. It is a deeply ingrained cultural celebration of warmth, faith, and family ties. It is a season of joyful anticipation, setting the perfect stage for the cherished traditions, nostalgic reunions, and comforting flavors that define the Filipino Christmas experience.

Among these seasonal delights, two iconic Filipino delicacies; Puto Bumbong and Bibingka, stand as quintessential symbols of the holidays. And Savoy Hotel is offering a delicious twist on Puto Bumbong and Bibingka honors cherished traditions while creating new culinary memories.

For generations, these delicacies have offered far more than simple sustenance. They evoke fond memories of chilly nights, cozy family gatherings, and late-night stops at food stalls following Simbang Gabi. The rich aromas and nostalgic tastes of these rice cakes are deeply woven into the fabric of a traditional Filipino Christmas.

Classic Holiday Treats Take on Bold New Twist

What happens when culinary creators add a touch of modern imagination to these time-honored dishes?

As the holiday season approaches, Savoy Hotel Manila is offering a vibrant fresh perspective on both delicacies. The hotel’s culinary team is reimagining these nostalgic treats with innovative toppings and flavors, all while preserving their traditional essence. The concept remains simple: honor history while creating space for delicious innovation.

While classic versions remain available, this year’s menu introduces distinct updates. The reimagined Puto Bumbong features two inventive variations: one topped with coconut milk, ripe mango, and roasted sesame seeds, and another layered with rich coconut jam and crispy latik.

Similarly, the Bibingka offers two indulgent new pairings: a decadent combination of Leche Flan and Macapuno, or a savory-sweet mix of Queso de Bola and Hamon. Both options pair seamlessly with warm tablea hot chocolate. To elevate the experience further, the team crafted a unique Sampaguita syrup, infusing a delicate floral sweetness into the festive offerings.

Evolving Traditions and Festive Challenges

Food traditions endure precisely because they adapt. Rather than remaining static, these recipes evolve across generations and families, carrying old memories forward while welcoming new ones. This season, Savoy Hotel Manila invites guests to revisit beloved flavors while making new memories around the table.

The holiday celebrations do not end with a single bite. Guests looking for a bit of friendly holiday competition can look forward to an upcoming Puto Bumbong and Bibingka Eating Contest hosted by the hotel, with full event details set to be announced soon.
