Thai cuisine has long captured the global palate with its masterful balance of sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy elements. Beyond its vibrant, aromatic profiles, traditional Thai food reflects a deep reverence for heritage, community, and culinary craftsmanship. As Southeast Asian flavors continue to flourish internationally, maintaining the integrity of these regional dishes becomes essential. Ensuring that every plate served far from Bangkok still honors the rich culture and authentic techniques from which it was born.
It is precisely this dedication to tradition that guests experience the moment they step into Nara Thai Makati, where they are immediately greeted by the rich aromas and vibrant colors of genuine Thai cooking. That steadfast commitment recently earned the establishment the prestigious Thai SELECT Seal. A distinction awarded by the Royal Thai Government’s Department of International Trade Promotion, under the Ministry of Commerce, to celebrate restaurants that faithfully uphold the true flavors, traditional techniques, and warm hospitality of Thailand.

A Culinary Gathering of Distinction
The milestone was commemorated during a special gathering led by Nara Thai owner Sheila Romero and Chief Operating Officer Charisse Amisola. They were joined by Corporate Head Chef Mark Ortega and Thai Chef Sorada Sriwichai.
Her Excellency Makawadee Sumitmor, Ambassador of Thailand, attended as the Guest of Honor. Other notable attendees included Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission Rangsant Srimangkorn of the Royal Thai Embassy, Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Pinky Montenegro, Department of Energy Assistant Secretary Mandy Romero, and Sta. Rosa, Laguna Mayor Arlene Arcillas.

Rooted in Bangkok, Made for the World
Founded in Bangkok in 2003, Nara Thai transformed from a homegrown local eatery into an international dining brand. Today, it serves authentic dishes across seven countries: Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, the United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines. The brand made its local debut in 2018 when Sheila Romero opened the first Philippine branch at SM Megamall. Her vision was simple: make genuine Thai cuisine accessible while honoring the high standards of its Bangkok roots. To maintain consistency, Nara Thai sources key ingredients directly from Thailand, relies on Thai culinary expertise, and sends local chefs to Bangkok for rigorous training.
Eight Years of Growing Excellence
Now marking more than eight years in the Philippine market, the brand continues to expand its presence. Nara Thai Makati becomes the third local branch to earn the Thai SELECT Seal, joining the ranks of its sister locations in Molito, Alabang, and SM Megamall.
The recognition reflects a complete commitment to quality—from meticulous preparation and artful presentation to attentive service and atmospheric dining.
The Thai SELECT recognition is very meaningful to us because it recognizes the authenticity and quality of the Thai cuisine we serve,” said Sheila Romero during the announcement.”
More importantly, it validates what we set out to do eight years ago: to stay true to the flavors and traditions of Thailand while sharing them with Filipino diners.”
Flavors That Inspire Loyalty
Across all branches, the restaurant has built a devoted following around signature specialties like Crab Yellow Curry and Durian Sticky Rice. House favorites such as Soft Shell Crab in Garlic, Massaman Beef Curry, and Prawn Pancakes remain sought-after dishes for long-time patrons and newcomers alike.
To meet rising demand, Nara Thai has also expanded beyond its traditional physical dining spaces. The brand now offers a dedicated catering service, bringing its signature menu directly to private homes, corporate functions, weddings, birthdays, and milestone events.
Looking Ahead to New Horizons
As the brand grows, new opportunities lie ahead. Romero announced that Nara Thai will open its fourth Philippine location at SM Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna later this year. Beyond expanding the restaurant’s physical footprint, the new branch is expected to generate fresh employment and livelihood opportunities for the local community.
Through faithful preparation and warm hospitality, Nara Thai continues to bring the authentic taste of Thailand closer to Filipino diners.
