TotalEnergies reshapes business strategy

TotalEnergies is refining its strategy in the Philippines, signaling a shift in its business focus while maintaining a foothold in the country’s evolving energy landscape.

As part of this transition, the French multinational has finalized the sale of its shares in its fuels marketing joint ventures — Total Philippines Corp., Filoil Logistics Corp., and La Defense Filipinas Holdings Corp. — to its long-standing local partner, Filoil.

The move marks a significant change in the company’s operations in the Philippines, where TotalEnergies has built a presence over the years. In a statement, the company confirmed:

TotalEnergies has completed the sale of its shares in its fuels marketing joint ventures in the Philippines — Total Philippines Corp. (TPC), Filoil Logistics Corp., and La Defense Filipinas Holdings Corp. — to its existing local partner, Filoil, one of the leading independent oil players in the country.

Following the acquisition, the three companies are now fully owned by the Filoil group, which will retain rights to operate under the Total brand for up to three years.

TotalEnergies’ existing activities, including trading, renewables, and global services, will continue in the Philippines and remain unaffected by this transaction.

The sale underscores a broader shift for TotalEnergies as it redirects its investments toward renewable energy and trading, in line with its global commitment to sustainable development.

While it is stepping away from the retail fuel sector in the Philippines, the company maintains that it remains invested in the country’s economic future, particularly in advancing cleaner energy solutions.

For Filoil, the acquisition consolidates its position in the Philippine fuel market, further expanding its reach as an independent player.

Under the agreement, the company will continue operating under the Total brand for a limited period, ensuring a smooth transition for customers and partners alike.

Even as TotalEnergies steps back from traditional fuel marketing in the Philippines, its focus on renewables and trading signals a forward-looking approach, one that aligns with the country’s own efforts toward a more sustainable energy future.
