2020 has been extremely challenging, so perhaps some of us will be scaling down our holiday celebrations. And that’s okay! We must remember that the amount of food on our table on Christmas Eve will not diminish the meaning of our time with loved ones. What’s important is that we still have the opportunity to spend time with them.
If you’re looking for something delicious to serve your family and friends, here are a few options you can check out whether you’re on a budget or springing to splurge.
Before transforming into an innovative buffet experience in the middle of the pandemic, Guevarra’s in San Juan offered their signature dishes for take-out and delivery during the ECQ.
Their food tray selections (which comes in three different sizes) are still available and most items are delicious AND affordable, just like their buffet.
We highly recommend their Angus Beef Tapa, Beef Kare-Kare, Pork Bellychon, and Pancit Bihon.
Food trays start at P295 for 2-3 persons.
If you’re craving home-cooked Filipino-Chinese fare, you’ll never go wrong with China Mommy.
Made from scratch every day by Linda Co from her home kitchen, China Mommy serves hearty food trays that are perfect for celebrations.
We highly recommend their Curry Crabs, Crabs with Sotanghon, Sweet Chili Prawns, and of course their best-selling Chinese Lumpia, which is also a fun dining experience for the family.
Food trays come in full and half sizes. Prices start at P1,000.
BENG’S HOME KITCHEN
Beng’s Home Kitchen is another home-based business that has become a favorite of foodies in online communities.
From her home in Quezon City, Beng Garcia-Arciga (with her trusted helper Des) creates scrumptious food trays and baked goods every day.
We highly recommend her Chicken Barbecue, Leche Flan, Beef Caldereta, Mixed Seafood Pasta, and Cheesecakes.
Food trays start at P600.
MAMA V DELICIOUS
While this iconic Malate eatery has been around for decades, Mama V Delicious along Leon Guinto serves humble yet delicious rice meals as well as topnotch pasta like bacon-heavy Carbonara and premium Pinoy Bolognese.
We highly recommend both pasta dishes and their crispy Chicharon Bulaklak with their signature Sassy Suka.
Pasta tubs come in three sizes (small, medium, large). Prices start at P580.
THE GRID FOOD MARKET
This elevated food hall at Power Plant Mall has transformed during the quarantine period, adapting so quickly and so well to the rising demand for deliveries and take-out while keeping customers interested by coming up with tons of new offers even during lockdown.
The Grid Food Market is home to several food stalls ranging from Thai food made by a Michelin-trained chef, Korean food, Japanese noods, and island favorites.
We highly recommend the Shrimp Paste Fried Rice from Samyan, Korean Bakes from Gochugang, Laksa Sushi Bake from Babu, and Surf & Turf with Adlai Paella from Granivore.
Food trays come in various sizes and prices depending on the stall.
Carlito’s Catering has been around since 2013, but they continue to innovate to maintain their appeal even for the younger market.
Their delicious and generous servings make every dish worth every penny and it’s not even that expensive to begin with.
We highly recommend their Baked Salmon with Spinach Cream Sauce, Prawns with Alavar Sauce, Kalderetang Baka with Gata, and Truffle Cream Pasta with Prosciutto. They also operate Butternut Bakery, which serves gorgeous cakes that would be perfect for any festive table.
Food trays are available in three sizes (small, medium, large). Prices start at P750 (small tray for 6-8 persons).
Created by the same geniuses who came up with The Sunny Side Cafe and Spice Bird Grill, Tabi-Tabi is their homage to streetside Pinoy BBQ we all know and love. But they decided to give it their own twist by making their own BBQ sauce: a sweet and savory Muscovado-Garlic Sauce that’s incredibly moreish.
Tabi-Tabi serves their pork and chicken BBQ with garlic confit fried rice and munggo guisado, but they also have BBQ platters that you can order so you won’t have to slave over hot coals and spend more time with your loved ones.
Their “Pangmaramihan” BBQ platters start at P795 (for a whole BBQ Chicken).
From the group behind favorites like Manam Comfort Filipino, Ooma, and 8 Cuts comes this new party tray concept that specializes in noodles.
Papa Pancitan offers a wide range of selection in various sizes to fit any celebration.
We highly recommend their Pancit Sisig and Crispy Pancit Palabok.
Food “bilao” comes in four sizes (pan pamilya, pan barkada, pan barangay, pan fiesta). Price starts at P368 (for 3-5 persons) and they’re all less than P1,000!
