Dr. Mike was first trained and educated in the tradition of analytic philosophy, but his pedagogical views extend beyond linguistic analysis in education. His ideas and beliefs in education are informed by knowledge and wisdom from philosophy, sociology, psychology, and other sciences. His philosophy of education is inspired by pluralistic social reconstructionism. He believes that the best aspects of education and life can be found through different modes of thinking.
While he learns from his students, he also teaches to broaden their intellectual horizons. He enjoys discussing big questions with students seeking something new and enduringly important in their learning experiences. Dr. Mike aims to create a community of inquiry with his students, where they feel comfortable expressing their thoughts. Collegiality, critical inquiry, democracy, and open-mindedness are central to his teaching philosophy.
Dr. Mike has published in peer-reviewed local and international journals of education. He has traveled overseas with colleagues and students to present research findings in education.
He is married to Dr. Maricris Bandiola Acido-Muega, professor of philosophy of education at UP. They have two children. Dr. Mike is also a basketball player, amateur visual artist, vlogger, long-time boxing student, coin collector, and watch enthusiast.
